With quick wingbacks it's the way forward. A lot of teams are going this way and it makes sense. 5 across the back when defending and quick counter attacking. I hope we can embrace modern thinking and not get stuck in the same old failed tactics.

Pfft! You play too much Fifa/Football Manager son!

England have only just switched to 4-3-3ish so I'd leave it...

It will be something like Verminators. Now risks, no surprises, as generic an England team as you can get. Starting lineup will probably be:

Hart
Johnson Lescott Terry Cole
Young Gerrard Parker/Barry Lampard Downing
Rooney

Alot of teams? Like who? Apart from Wigan, who have hit a purple patch, and Barca who could play any formation and beat most teams, nobody plays 3 at the back.

Real Madrid; about to win La Liga with a back 4.
Bayern Munich; Champions League final with a back 4.
Juventus and Milan; One will win Serie A, both use a back 4.
Every team in the top 6 in England.....back 4!!!!
Spain, Germany, Italy, France, Portugal, Brazil, Holland all play with a back 4.

I think Genoa still play 3 at the back as well

3 at the back was a popular formation for ITALIAN teams in the late 90s/early 2000s but even they have ditched it

442/433 are the way to go. 3 at the back is just a mess

English players are too thick to adapt to "strange" formations (i.e. anything other than 4-4-2 or 4-5-1). McClaren tried 3 at the back with wing backs and we got stuffed by Croatia.

Napoli's defence is awful. They rely on the front 3, who are miles better than anything we(England) have to offer. I also think they have been overhyped. Only players that impressed me were Cavani, Lavezzi, Hamsik, Maggio and Inler. They'll be 3rd after tonight but still well of the pace.

So true

Imagine Pep trying to explain to the english players how to play the Barcelona way.

Rooney and co. would just cry from information overload. We english only know how to play one way, get the ball to the wings, overload the box, whip it in ad pray one o our players get on the end of it
