Nigel D always said how he never expected his loans to NFFC to be repaid, time after time and time again.
Now, following his sad passing, it seems as though his estate have decided to claim this money back, to the potential massive detriment of our beloved club (assuming a mega bucks owner doesn't come in and save us).
I'm in two minds about this:
If it is true, for his nearest and dearest to backtrack on ND's arrangement, then it wreaks of contradiction, and could potentially see us sliding down the leagues! Part of me is fuming about this, it's like giving with one hand and taking with the other.
Although on the flip side, I can't really blame them, it is about £75 million after all. Put yourselves in their position, would you wipe off £75 million owed to you?
Thoughts?

IMO the best way forward for all parties is to right off the debt, then additional investors may be willing to invest or buy out the estate, that gives a return, anything above the value of the realiseable assets is a profit, if they no longer wish to invest further monies?

I think that ND's family are a disgrace.

Sorry if somebody else has said it but i couldnt be bothered to read through it all but is this muppet serious....look at how most of your fans treated him, now if that was my dad and got treated the way he did after putting so much money into the club id let you all suffer as well, wouldnt surprise me if the stress of your fans was partly to do with his death

On the roof,
How come most of your fans wanted NLN out and held a demonstration outside your ground to try and remove GSE?

Regardless of everything, to come out and call ND's family a disgrace is a disgrace in itself.
Realistically, the family knows it's not going to get a buyer for £75m. But who says they won't accept £25m or even less?
There is no doubt in my mind they respect the views of their deceased husband/father. But they're not going to just give the club away!
You're simply an idiot if you have any ill wishes towards the family of ND. Especially without knowing ANYTHING to do with the selling of the club. Best off kepping opinions like these to yourself without besmirching your own name and Nottingham Forest itself.

Some of the posts on this thread might tell you exactly why it was that Doughty didn't want to put up with it any more. It is to his credit that he didn't react by pulling the plug entirely, though part of him may have wanted to.
Although he said he never EXPECTED to get the money back, he also didn't give it for free, only as a loan. Why was that? He didn't choose to write off the debt at any time, so why would those inheriting his estate think differently? The idea that his family should have some moral obligation to go on bankrolling Forest and just forget about 75 million pounds to which they are entitled is ludicrous, especially given the way Doughty was treated by some, not all, Forest fans when he was alive.

From everything that I have read on here and on the internet, it appears that the estate is trying to get the full £75m back, whether it be up front or paid back over a number of years.
For them to try and get even a penny back when ND was happy to write off the "loans" in full is in my opinion morally wrong.
If they ARE trying to get the full £75m back, then I repeat, its a disgrace.
Obviously if they are not then I take it all back, but it doesnt look like that does it? Perhaps if they came out and said exactly what they were looking to do, there wouldnt be all this uncertainty and confusion.
A few morons having a go at ND (and I was NOT one of them) should not detract from the thousands of supporters who were appreciative of what he did, and his estate should take that into account.
IMO they should sell the club for a £1, and let someone take it on, invest a bit of money, and see where it gets us.
And I realise giving away £75m is not something to consider lightly, but its all relative when you have £100'sm, its like us giving away £300 out of £1500 - that doesnt sound so bad does it ?

Your comments re "Non-League" are signs you still don't get it. Nigel Clough, an ex-Forest ikon who performed well for you in the glory days, has done brilliantly with his non-league signings. With these same non-league players and a few schoolkids, The Rams beat Forest twice this season. We only had 10 men.
If you DO lose the ND millions you will need someone with NC's abilities to re-build your squad. But cheer-up, you still have Cotterel and I think he is a good manager. After all he did keep you in the Championship

Its not often, but I agree with you. Your lot are doing it the right way, and I think Nigel is doing well with the resources he has. You certainly have a few more stable years in front of you than us. Doubt you will go up, but you certainly wont have to go through a season like we just did.
Put it another way, I would rather be back in League one with rubbish players on rubbish money with NO debt, than where we are today, with £75m hanging round our necks and not knowing whats going to happen.
Since 2000, we have had
One relegation
One Promotion
Four failed playoffs
For £75m ? Your having a giraffe.
And again, can someone please tell me how we were losing £12m per year in League One ? The likes of John Curtis, Eugene Dadi, Nicky Eaden, Gary Holt, Ross Gardner, Danny Cullip, Neil Harris, Scott Dobie, Rune Pedersen, Robert Hughes - no way were they earning more than a couple of grand a week each, and if they were then its gross mismanagement.
