Doughty died with no will, but leaves £145m

According to Lincolnshire press:

http://www.thisislincolnshire.co.uk/Nottingham-Forest-owner-Nigel-Doughty-left-pound/story-15988587-detail/story.html

Refreshes my sadness for the family.

From a Forest point of view, i can only assume that this is bad news for Forest.

PS I just hope people respect the family, this will be complex and don't forget the legal firms are acting on behalf of the family and what is best for the children etc, whilst respecting Nigel's wishes.

Kernow,
It's all guess work, how do you know that the figure includes the £75 mil in loans? If the club is included in those figures I would guess that it is included at what they consider the value/worth of the club.
The figure is most probably related to his personal wealth rather than his buisness interests. Homes, savings, trust funds, life insurance policys etc etc.

Did state half is fact and half is fill in the blanks,
The figure is the net estate therefore what is given to beneficiares, the net value would exclude all the extras and debt and would be used for tax (40%). Even if the 145m is net value still subject to this tax.
Either way the club needs to be sold as there wont be the funds to support as ND.
Anyway the family need to do whats right for them and I just hope fans don't get on their back , which im sure wont happen.

I wish this wasn't happening, and he was still around, but there are a lot of scare stories about his family wanting the money back from Forest, and that will lead to a lot of resentment from some fans, regardless of actual truth.

Personally, I don't think we are in any danger, his family knew what he spent his money on and why, and won't want to harm the club Nigel Doughty was devoted to. That's not to say that they won't hold out for as much as possible for the club, which is fair enough, but it will mean another poor season next time round. That's life.

Totally agree, they will be aware of ND wishes and have to do what is right for them. There are a few options for the estate the best for everyone is suitable buyer is found.
If not cross that bridge, in the meantime just support the club.

One thing I would like to see is the new training centre named in Nigel's honour as I think this would be a fitting tribute and legacy.

Anybody who thinks that the family are expecting £75 mil from/for Forest lack basic common sense.
The sale of the club is being handled by experts at the request of ND,Im pretty sure that between them they worked out a realistic sale price and conditions,no mugs involved in that meeting.

Also I would be very suprised if ND's family are worth less than £400 mil +

If it was me, I'd want the money back.

If it was an ordinary company, not a football club, I'd want as much money as I could get. I'd want to ensure my family and the future was secure. There would be no sentiment in supporting a company my father worked for / owned.

Hard conditions of life I'm affraid come first.

On saying that, it is doubtful that the £75m will be recouped.

I dont think anyone on this forum has said the estate want the 75 million back but point out the simple truth we owe the estate 75 million which is fact. Even if this is written off or reduced as aprt of a sale we dont know but its still owed.

On other forums there has been a few rumours about demands etc.

The important point is the sale and not to be deluded that money is avialable.

I doubt anybody is deluded about money the club have to spend. We are in a sell to buy situation, simple as that.
If the estate agree to put anymore money into the club it will most probably be the bare minimum, just enough to keep it ticking over until a sale is agreed.

If the fair play rules are as stringent as we are lead to believe then maybe the Doughty family should keep hold of Forest. They wouldn't be able to pour millions in, even if they wanted to, and maybe in a few years they'll have a PL club to sell - with a LOT of luck! Maybe.
