Butterfield Transfer Saga

There appears to be much confusion in the media speculation over Jacob Butterfield's future. My understanding is that from the opening of the summer transfer window on 8th June until the end of his current contract, which is probably 30th June, a club could agree to pay us a fee to sign him to avoid a competition for his signature.

However, as most deals these days appear to be made between buying clubs and agents before contracts run out and without making an official approach to the current club, I'm not sure a club would wish to spend more than necessary.

Clearly, BFC is not in a strong position. There is a well defined method of determining valuation based on age, level played at, games played and value and length of contract offered by current club.

What our fans, or anyone else, think he's worth is irrelevant to the Tribunal process!

Sad but true Dave, we know that Butters is a great player and that he is going to go for nowhere near the price we would want to get for him. If he applies himself over the next season or two (If he goes to Newcastle) I can see him getting a regular first team slot and maybe a shot at an international call up.

Hill has sounded a little vexed at this and has mentioned that the loss of Vaz Te at a cut price has been a lesson he will take on board when it comes to new signings- my problem with this is does this mean that he will try and get players on longer deals?

The vaz te situation couldn't be helped. A 12-month contract was the right thing to do. We plucked him out the wilderness and he'd not done anything with any other club prior to joining us. No way anyone could have predicted his success.

I blame the player, not the Club. Was very obvious he wanted out as soon as physically possible. Had us over a barrel.

The butterfield situation I feel, could have been avoided, had we extended his contract earlier.

In retrospect 500k and 12 important goals isn't bad for free is it?

Nope. You could even argue his goals kept us up.
