After destroying Thomas Vermaelen and Laurent Koscielny for large portions of the game today, it's only fair that he gets his call up.
2 of the next 3 England international games will feature Vermaelen and Koscielny. So who better to lead the line than the big man himself?
Englands up coming friendly against Belgium will be Roy Hodgson's first trial as England manager. A lot of people have questioned his ability to manage the big names and big egos... so why bother when we have Grant Holt? Surely Hodgson can do an Andy Johnson at Fulham with him. Maybe partnered by QPR front man Bobby Zamora? (joking)
England then face France in the opening game of Euro 2012. Luckily for Hodgson he won't have to worry about another big name, big ego in Wayne Rooney, as he's ineledgible. So why not let Holt lose on Koscielny again? I'm sure he's dreading the thought already.
Seriously though... I'd rather take Holt than an un-fit Darren Bent. I think he's earnt a chance in the upcoming friendlies
Grant Holt for England?

Silky, with all your self pronounced wisdom! You seem to be good at ditching players like Holt, but not so good at stating who in your wonderous opinion is a better option, prey tell us who should be wearing the 3 lions in the upcoming games?

Silky, the fact that these ex pros may know more than me doesn't disguise the fact that they know very little about my team, and teams like them. Mark Lawrenson, for instance, would struggle to name more than a few of our players. if that's good punditry, then heaven help us.
I do love your penchant for patronising a person though. Yes I remember that (rather short) list of 'failures' you mention. I'm not that young!
If by reaching, as you say, his achievable level means scoring some excellent goals against some of the best teams in the land , then he's hardly done badly, has he?
You say you study the game deeply, yet say he lacks finesse: this smacks of someone who hasn't studied this particular player in any depth at all, yet claim you know all about him. Very poor argument in my opinion.

wE ALL HAVE OUR OWN OPINIONS, THAT IS WHAT A PROPER fORUM IS FOR; NOT THIS BACK BITING, MUDSLINGING THAT GOES ON UNDISGUISED AMONGST MANY OF THE cONTRIBUTORS. i NEVER SAID I HAD THE ANSWER; IN FACT I WOULD BE HARD PRESSED TO ADVANCE THE ATTRIBUTES OF ANY ONE INDIVIDUAL TO FIT NICELEY AND WORTHILY INTO THE eNGLAND NUMBER 9 SHIRT AT PRESENT.

Sorry. I left my Caps lock on.

Conclusion being....might as well give the shirt to Grant Holt....I can guarantee for sure he will give 110%, work his b>ll>cks off, niggle at and annoy the centre backs and you never know he may even score, because he can do that as well?!

Silky Blue, of course you are entitled to your opinion. It's the basis of good debate to have disagreements from time to time.
Am I wrong, however, that, judging by what I've seen of your posts, you do tend to take up a contrary position in order to get under the skin of certain posters?
Anyway, that doesn't really impact on me. Do feel free to comment on Grant Holt's first England cap. I'm more convinced than ever now that it will happen.
PS, I hope you weren't referring to me regarding backbiting and mudslinging. I don't 'talk' like that, I'm always interested in other people's opinions, as long as they are sincere.

No, i was not referring to you at all.My apologies if it appeared that way. I am sure those people that are touched and concerned by my comment Know who they are and that it will be like water off a ducks back to them.
I am fully prepared to eat my words if my opinion of Grant Holt changes, but it will take more than a debut to do so. A successful run in an England Team with the same goal per appearance ratio as Crouch may go some way towards changing my opinion however, notwithstanding that i am not a particular admirer of Peter Crouch as a footballer, but i do acknowledge his goalscoring prowess at International Level.
Lets just wait and see.

That's one seat on the plane for Mr Crouch, I'll give you that one and I agree with the number of goals he's scored for England, a player fondly remembered by many at Carrow Road during his loan spell here. If another seat goes to Rooney, despite being suspended and his woeful performances in South Africa in 2010. That still leaves seats of which one can go to Holt. You are like many doubters Silky, who when we were in League One said Holty can do a job for you there but will not cut it in the Championship. Only to be proved wrong when he helped us gain promotion. Then up they all popped again 'a Championsip striker who will be found out by the defenders in the Prem.' Oh but look, he has proved them all wrong yet again this season.

Coaches often suss out an individual after an initial bright start resulting in a far from impressive performance from him in subsequent seasons. It has happened time and again overthe years and there are many instances i could recall.

That's just supposition, though, you could say that about any player!
I don't think anyone sees Grant, at 31, as a long-term fix for England, but the new manager doesn't have much time before the Euros, and I think Holty deserves a place in the squad with the form he's in. Frankly, there's little else out there to inspire anyone.
A cleen sweep then for WC qualifying is essential, and there are many I hope will be disgarded.
