....all these years?
I always thought that football was quite a simple game :
You stop them scoring and try and score a few yourselves.
Simple.
Or perhaps I've been wrong all these years because watching Bolton this season, it appears that the object of the game is to knock it around between the back four and the midfield until you (A) either cede possession of the ball to the opposition and let them score or (B) lump it up to the front and let their 'keeper have a touch.
You can argue that the fixture computer was unkind to us and we've suffered with injuries to key players but neither of those facts should be sufficient to explain why we're in the mess we're in.
We simply haven't done the basics well enough this season. We can't defend and we can't score.
And that means we deserve to go down.
Even if we do beat Stoke next week and manage to stay up, I'm worried for the future.
The way the teams at the bottom have performed for the majority of the season, any half decent outfit would've moved clear of the danger zone by mid January and we'd be sitting pretty now in about 14th.
But we're not a half decent outfit, are we? Something's very wrong at Bolton because if we can all see what's wrong, why can't the management team?
And that's why I'm worried about next season. Because unless Owen Coyle and his backroom staff wise up and start focussing on getting the basics right instead of just endlessley banging on about self-belief and the quality that we've got in the squad (......?), it's going to get even worse next year.
We need some proper defenders, we need someone who is capable of sticking it in the opposition's net and we need someone who can pick a pass in midfield.
There you go, no humour just observations on purely football related matters.
Have I got it wrong......

Grasping at straws here.
I hope we have reached the low point where ever we play next time around.
Maybe just a maybe we may be going through all this so we can see the return.
A Sequel.....
WhiteHot 2 the return of a Fortress at The Reebok. Starring the back page hogging non conceding back line supporting a lightening hit squad leaping higher than a Salmon as they rip up the form guide and destroy the expectations of the top order.
Bookies are crying in their beer at the thought.
Coming soon the biggest Ding Dong Do in history.

Diesel and a lighter fluid chaser. I'm quite looking forward to it though in a weird way. Some proper division 1 football that'll remind me of my teenage years. But then they do say nostalgia's not what it used to be.
Barman! a pint of Flat Cap for me and whatever Breadman and Bricks are having...

I'm not overly worried by the getting relegated bit, as I used to enjoy it in the lower divisions.
It's just getting beaten by Utd, Chelsea et al is one thing, but there's not much kudos attached to running the likes of Barnsley and Palace close before losing 2-1....
