Heskey

Apparently he'd be interested in coming back to Leicester after just being released by Aston Villa.
Personally I'd like to see him here and think he'd be far more effective than Steve Howard.

He still has a couple of seasons left and has a strong bond with the club. Don't he put his own money into LCFC when we went bust! He could easily land a short contract for more money elsewhere. He wants to play for Leicester, would give his all and could help put us in the Premier League.

Played his entire career in the Premier League and, whilst never a prolific goalscorer, his record of 1 goal every 5 games is not too bad for a supporting striker who must have created hundreds for others.

Would be a great replacement for Howard but not at the sort of money we would have to pay him.

I agree that we definitely need a big, target man in the squad.

I'm not too sure it would involve a huge amount of money. At 34, and with constant flack he has received, I think Heskey is emotionally probably on the verge of retiring from football (some of the narrow minded criticism he got when playing for England was cringe-worthy).

And I also believe the last challenge he would consider is to help Leicester get promoted and IMO I don't think he would demand huge wages to have a go at this and I don't think he would be narcissistic enough to command a starting place every week (he has never, ever been this type of player so don't know why he would change his attitude now).

However.....the thing that made Howard and the tactics theat went with him one dimensional some times, was not that we played the ball up for knock downs but that Steve had no pace; so he contribution to an attacking move was limited.

This is why Heskey was much more dynamic when he was here originally - hold up play, flick ons, the ability to turn and get in to the box or drag a CB out wide/FB inside, and the pace to knock the ball past a defender.

I'm not sure if he has that pace anymore unfortunately.

Would be a punt, possibly less than Vardy though and with blue-tinted specs on, it would be nice to see him pulling on the blue shirt again.

If he's got wind of stick some of are fans have been giving players who wear the Blue shirt this season he'd be best staying away.

Despite the obvious difference in age and profile as a player, my opinion on whether we should sign Heskey is similar to what my opinion is regarding whether we should sign Vardy;

If he is signed to either complement or be understudy to Beckford, then it is a very good signing. If it is to replace Beckford, it is a poor signing.

Ultimately we all know Heskey is not a player who will score 20-30 goals next season, that is not his game. He could, however, create a similar amount of goals for the team if used properly. A Heskey-Beckford or even Heskey-Nugent-Beckford strike force could well be sensational as Heskey can take the knocks for Nuge and Becks. The downsides is a) his age (we certainly would not be able to sell him for any price, and he probably doesn't have another PL season in him if we did go up) and b) it may mean we play even more hoofed and long if Pearson merely signs him for his height and heading ability.

I think Heskey could bring a different dynamic to the side, and he is clearly very open to the thought of coming. A strikeforce of Heskey, Becks, Nuge, Vardy, Vassell and Schlupp would be very good at this level.

I agree with the sentiment regarding crowd criticism of Heskey. He has been subjected to many vicious taunts and jibes from thicko England fans and the gutter press for the majority of his career. But I don't think he would get any of that here, even if he did flop. King and Waghorn haven't played well for verging on 2 years, yet are still largely acclaimed by the fans. Compare that to the criticism the likes of Beckford and Ricardo got. Ultimately if you have a good name, show yourself to be committed and passionate and be generally seen to be a likeable person, many fans will let you get away with it even if you are playing rubbish.

If we're looking at his age, all I'll say is...Kevin Phillips.
Heskey will never be our 20 goal a season player but he'll probably take 2 defenders out at a time leaving Nugent and/or Beckford free.

Still think he'd be good at this level.

Thanks, but no thanks.

I'm afraid it would be a ridiculous signing - extremely high wages and little expected return for your money.

A perfect (off the bench) signing for MON. If anyone could get the best out of Heskey, it would be O'Neill.

It would be great to have him back. He has no offers at this time and has suggested he would be happy to return. His fitness levels are still very good at his age. I can't understand the issue over his wage. If Pearson wants him, he will make an offer he sees as fair and emile will accept or decline. No-one will know how much he would be paid unless he tells you so that being a reason against him signing is a mute point. emile will be a great addition to the squad and I hope we get him.

If Heskey is affordable he would be an asset to our team. We're very short on players who will genuinly play for the shirt, something that has been lacking in our team this season. Yes, he's lost a bit in recent years but a really think he could add something to our team. Decent player, decent bloke, what more do we want?
