Arsenal and Man Utd don't have a problem bringing kids through and sticking them in the team, regardless of the oppo. They work on the basis that if they're good enough they're good enough. Man Utd and Arsenal will most likely finish 2nd and 3rd.
At Liverpool we leaves the kids to rot in the reserves until they're about 20, then, once they're suitably fed up, we sent them out on loan for a couple of years before selling them.
We will most likely finish 9th.

redconn - what do you mean "a pile of rubbish"? It is the truth. A few years back when Steve Heighway was youth team coach we won the youth cup two years in a row and what happened? Heighway quit because he said that no matter how well the kids played they would never get a chance in the first team. Its not so long ago that all of us were raving about Daniel Pacheco. Where is he now? Notice a pattern here?

The youth get a chance at Utd and Arsenal because they have a well established side, established style and established pattern of play. Under these conditions, it is easier to blood youngsters.
We on the other hand, aint gotta a clue what our style of play is, our formation changes like the british weather, we have non-confident players, etc, etc.
What I'm saying is that until we can sort the 1st team out, I'm afraid there is no chance for the Yoof !

because Kelly, Spearing, Shelvey, Flanagan and Robinson all have been getting chances.
Pacheco was given chances but wasn't good enough.
And the last couple of seasons have had so much pressure and disappointment that throwing kids in the deep end unless we had no other choice would have been very unwise.
And United have only really used reserves kids when injuries forced their hand. Much like us.
The grass is greener or they do it differently is usually a myth compounded by frustration at results.
And until very recently our reserves players were rubbish and after they left us were never heard from again.

Fair enough. I stand corrected.
Blame it on the frustration.
