Pogba

So rumours are rife that Pogba has decided to take up Juventus's offer.
If the lad doesnt want to play for us, then thats fine.

What my bug bear though is, why pay compensation for a player, spend a few years and god knows how much in money training him and paying him to be here, only to let his contract run out and lose him for nothing to a team who will then benefit from the clubs hard work and effort.

To me this is a sign of someone not doing there job right and should be looked into.

thoughts.

I'm bored of hearing about this whole affair. As Churchill once said, never has so much been written about a player who has achieved so little. Or words to that effect. Or maybe not. But you get my point.

I think Pogba should just go to Italy. Or better yet, United should impose a deadline on the club's offer to force him into making a decision one way or the other. I'm beyond caring what he decides to do, I just wish he'd decide either way.

and I think we have that balance.... Th only reason it is being talked about is because Morrison got the boot (contract not the issue) and now Pogba.... Two attacking talents.

Because they are hyped... It has made more ripples than normal.

I doubt there would be so many articles if, say, Michael Keane were to leave on a free.

We dont have the balance. If we did we wont be losing what is generally accepted to be the best talents in our youth set up for a while. The whole point of having reserves is so you can sift the few good ones out of the dead wood. For that you have to know the price you are paying for them staying while their mates are developing their skills elsewhere is a longer term deal.

I compare players like pogba to jones, nani, anderson. etc. if he had played one full yr in portugal or even championship level, he would be the target of big clubs now and how much did we pay for those 1 yr footballers with potential? 15-20 million. this will cover the payment for the wages of all the reserve players and then some. I cannot believe the wage bill of the total reserves is more than 3 million tops. The instant we sell one or 2 of them, we get the money back.

Now we dont even want to sell him, we want to keep him. If we had to go out and buy an 18 yr old with potential, how much do you think we will pay? 10-20 million? its how much we paid for ando. We could not see how ando works with the team, his temperament and other psychological qualities. But we can with pogba, would cost us less, have a good understanding of english and the system before taking the step up. That is the advantage of a youth setup, an advangate you lose by signing them to 2 yr contracts in hope that when they are just about to become good, they wont want to leave but want to stay with us. To be complaining about saving 1 or 2 million compared to saving 10-20 million is the definition of not seeing the bigger picture.

I don't think the length of a contract would affect whether a player wants to stay or go
Pogba still may want to be off this summer, even if he had 3 years left on his contract

true, but if it was one yr with another yr option. how much is he on now? 1000, 5000, 10000 a week? 500,000 a yr. if he wants off well he will have to find someone willing to pay his transfer fee.

I bet you if his contract wasnt up, there would be no Juve rumours and he will be preparing for a new season next ready to take a step into the senior team. The only reason we talking about this is because his contract is up and he can leave for peanuts. If he wasnt and we were demanding 8-12 million for a player who has not looked out of place in our midfield yet, i bet you juve would be promoting their own youngsters instead of poaching ours.

we have a one year option on his current contract. He's going nowhere if we don't want him to go

And yet the tune has not changed. fergie is still saying he hopes he signs a new contract. Rumours are implying he is leaving and just like berba, using the one yr option really only means you are looking to sell since you either did not offer a new contract (as in berba) or he is going (as in pogba). either way, the one yr contract is just a way of getting some money back, not because you want to keep the player.

True red

But no different if his contract was 2 or 3 years if he wants out anyway

We will still get a fee of about the same

Not really. We are not going to get the same fee for berbatov if he left last yr. If a player says he wants to leave, then the transfer fee drops. A player with 2 yrs on his contract more often than not will cost more than one with one yr.

More importantly, His leaving a yr later for free wont be a pressure on the team or the player. For example, hoillett did not have to leave this yr from blackburn and he performed well for the club, with them still able to get something for him. same with van persie. A look at the price for Kagawa and ozil and sahin before him tells of the pressures a club is on to sell when there is a yr left on a contract.

I would agree with that when it comes to experienced players but with a reserve team player, I can't see it making that much difference

How much do you think Pogba would go for this summer if he had 1 year or 2 years on his contract

Who exactly have we lost?

Please don't see morrison.... It is well documented that we did not want to renew his contract.

So, if Pogba leaves... We have lost a grand total of one player in the last few years.
