Forwards - Who Do We Take To The Euros?

Here are my choices:

Rooney
Welbeck
Carroll
Bent
Zamora?

What are your choices??

First of all, this entire conversation shows what a shallow pool we have to choose from. Our forwards must be the weakest of all the teams going to the Euros. For that reason alone, it's only worth taking 4 forwards at most - use the extra squad place for a decent midfield player or defender. Ultimately, we have one worthwhile striker, and he's banned for the first 2 games. We will surely have to play Rooney upfront on his own with a midfield 5 behind him. The other 3 forwards should be:
Wellbeck (Man Utd sub)
Defoe (Spurs sub)
and one of Holt, Crouch, Zamora or Carroll (it doesn't really matter which - they are all rubbish).

Rooney, Carroll, Wellbeck and Crouch for me.

holt is not rubbish

2nd highest english scorer suggests otherwise

Rooney, Sturridge, Welbeck, Carroll and I'd rather take a wild card like OX-C along rather than a 5th striker we're unlikely to use even with Rooney out for 2 games, and particularly since I dont think we should be playing 4-4-2. However 4-4-2 is Roy's religion and an old fashioned safe conservative guy like him wont change now.

If Carroll didn't play for Liverpool but had the exact same season only at a club like Wigan or Wolves would his name even be mentioned in such a debate?

The FA can spend as much money as they like on St.Georges Park but the mentality of english football hasn't changed a bit it seems, if you play for a "big club" then you'll be considered for England regardless of whether or not you deserve it or not, Stuart Downing is the poster boy for this.

I see your pt BruceandPally, but think it's more about the dearth of English striking talent in the Prem. I mean people are even discussing Grant Holt and Zamora. Ultimately you need to think he could cause problems coming off the bench, and for all Carroll's faults and there are many he could do that as well as any 4th or 5th choice striker.

You're also right about his season, but I dont suppose that will stop Roy taking Gerrard.

Oh get over it you pleb

He's had a poor season and doesn't offer anything more than Crouch or Holt, if he didn't play for Liverpool he wouldn't even be considered given the season (not 4-5 games, but the season as a whole) he's had, what it is now, 4 goals in 35 appearances or something? Carroll reallys deserves his place doesn't he and don't give me the " but he's on form at the moment" line because so is Grant Holt who terrorised Arsenal at the Emerites.

Andy Carroll is a young player at a midtable side.

I think it would be brilliant if we stopped this obsession with top 4 players as they always fail us.

What's the point in Welbeck? 4 matches for England not goals. If he still played for Sunderland he wouldn't even get a look in and he's hardly prolific at the bestest and most attackingingest side in the Universe.

At least Carroll scored for England.

What a load of nonsense. He hasn't been chosen since he joined Liverpool as far as I can recall, whilst he was chosen when he played for Newcastle. Whilst being in poor form he hasn't deserved to be chosen and nobody can dispute that, however since the turn of the year Carroll began to show signs he was willing to fight for his place and with this came, more faith in him and his confidence rose. Since that he has shown good form in the last few months and scored goals whilst getting a few assists also.

Over the season, there are a couple of players who have performed better, some have faded now but Carroll is showing good form leading into the competition and at a level the others can't play at and that is what you need at the Euro's.
