Hi guys, as you probably guessed I'm new to the site and after reading a few articles took the plunge and created an account! Chelsea has been in the family since the 70's so there are a few heated debates about these sort of things in my house anyways!!!!
Now I've been an Essien fan since he arrived like many of you, but his recent performances have been rather poor and his mobility can, at times, be as slow as an "asthmatic ant carrying heavy shopping." (I know that's ironic considering I'm a Mikel fan!)
I remember his vital goals such as against Arsenal and Everton and his unbelievable performances during Hiddink's reign when he came back from injury, but recently have seen no sign of the old Essien since his return from his last knee injury and I'm starting to lose faith in the Ghanaian, and wandering whether his time might be unfortunately up!
RDM disagrees and has come out and said;
"Because he has been out for a long time it takes a bit of time to get back into the rhythm," added Di Matteo.
"Next season, with a full pre-season, he will start to see some fine performances."
I don't agree though, What do you guys think, should he be given one more season or shipped out with Malouda and others in the summer?
Is Essien past it?

I do think he's past it. I saw this happening when he was coming back from injury although I'm not happy in saying I was right. Everything has to come to an end and we're witnessing the end here massive shame, without his injuries I reckon he still be one of the best midfielders in the world

He's not what he used to be but he's a decent DM/CM!

Unfortunately Essien has the style of play that age or injuries can diminish very suddenly. It's a shame, because he was the best in the world at what he does in his prime. He's still a very good player, just not as good as he was.
Welcome to the site

Essien must go, sentiment aside and I did like him as a player, he isnt up to it these days.
