I've no objections to the boy declaring for ROI although he should NOT have opted to come up through the NI ranks if he always knew in his heart yadda-yadda that he wanted to play for ROI.
One of his reasons for opting out of the NI setup was what he perceived to be the lack of Catholics. How he knew what everyone's religion was is staggering. Even more staggering is that this even mattered to him.
Also of concern are the McLean apologists. If you look at some of the other McLean threads where comments have been deleted or threads have been closed by the article creators because certain responses highlight the creator's lack of intelligence. These people are part of the problem on the island of Ireland. Take a bow Houghton...
As for McLean, I just hope the ROI has the correct quota of Catholics for him in order to help him "feel right". The ROI squad is welcome to him. His inclusion in the NI team would only upset the harmony that appears to exist between Protestant & Catholic (and agnostic/aethiest) players who are more interested in coming together to play football for Northern Ireland.
You are welcome to McLean

Deary me fokbaik so even though the fella has clarified his original comment you can't let it go?
That's just sad, but you keep it up, 'you and yours' keep blaming the individual players or believing nonsense conspiracy theories about players being 'forced' to play for the ROI and the young players who feel uncomfortable playing for NI will continue to waltz into the welcoming arms of the FAI.

"Even in the squads I felt like a bit of an outsider. There weren't too many Catholics, it just didn't feel right."

I haven't read the thread as I know what course it will take seeing as we have the semi literate Rangers fan at the helm. Repeating the same thing as he hasn't been educated to the standard whereby you have to think for yourself, think about what those opposed to you think, then make your mind up.
A serious lack of lateral thinking in the state school system. Even Allister and Campbell touched on it a while back.
Pathetic.

Fascinating.
Any thoughts on what Mclean is quoted as saying, or are you another apologist?

Aologist for what? He was asked a question and he answered it. End of story. He didn't fancy it. He made clear that people from his background do no want to stand for the Queen and fly her flags.
There isn't really much to it and attitudes like yours will continue to make players opt of of NI. You can't even see it, you just throw the 'bigot' tag around when you don't even know what it means.
As a Republican I love people like you. Keep up the good work

Gibbo as long as like you he keeps paying her taxes I don't care if he doesn't like her flag lol.....................
And young James would be paying it at 45% as well lol................
And because recent polls indicate the majority of Catholics in OWC want to continue paying HER their taxes you and James will be paying it for a while lol.....................
Unless of course Gibbo you want to relocate from the Ardoyne bubble to the Celtic Tiger Nirvana lol...................

Gibbo you are an apologist because you continue to gloss over Mclean's overtly sectarian comment, where he specifically touched on religion.

Republican rocket..............can you not find a chuckie forum pal. This is about football, sometimes, but you are not into football really.
If a prod at Celtic said what McClean said about his fans and team, you would call him a bigot, would you not?

Jesus how stupid are our friends of the Orange variety?
Seriously like.
Look at the state of the answers, gripping at all sorts of nonsense and poor knowledge of what words actually mean. Equating club football with representing your country.
Bluebells, I have not taken anything you say serious since your cheerleading of the Orange Order. You are a cringe-a-thon of the highest order (arf arf)

It's not an unreasonable analogy in the discussion gibbo.
If Scott Brown (Rangers fan and youth player as a boy) turned round and said there were too many Catholics in the team, in the support and too many tricolours / songs of an Irish Republican nature for his liking at Celtic Park - I don't imagine the reaction would be favourable amongst the home support, do you - particularly the religious slur.
They certainly wouldn't be asking "well, what would you like to see/hear instead Scott?" !
