Either City or united will drop points and I’m tempted to think it could be united. I’m not convinced in all these years of top flight football that the winner of this season’s league title will be decided on goal difference.
Usually in fixtures that kick off at the same time when teams require a similar result its highly unlikely that they both achieve it. For me it all comes down to the 1st goal. Like the Manchester Derby or the game between City and Newcastle I felt whoever scored the 1st goal would win the match.
In both games Mancini wanted to get the goal before half time as he knew this would transfer the pressure to the opponents. In the Derby he was fortunate the goal came before half time hence the pressure was transferred to united who then failed to rise to the occasion just like this set of players failed against Basle and Bilbao.
The truth is City owe this league title to the collapse by united against Everton.2 goals up with 12 odd minutes left, united even with the players they have should have completed the job. I see in some reports today Fergie comments about Mancini’s methods of securing results as a way in which united could learn but united teams in the past either way would be good enough to secure a result even with a gung ho approach at the end.
The quality isn’t that of the past but this united team has still been impressive and I feel the Everton game, which by the way I thought was the best game this season, was one of those things that can happen in football.
On Sunday they will require an early goal against Sunderland to shift the pressure to City. Most City fans are aware that this City side doesn’t score many in the first half and this could result in tension at the stadium but Mancini is a cool customer and this City side knows how to get a result especially at home.
If Hughes parks the bus or get a jammy goal against the run of play I expect city to come out and try to win the gamer by getting free kicks around the edge of the box. Players like Silva and Nasri will dance inside the 18 yard box and eventually City will win a pen as they have done all season.
The only way QPR can win the game would be by stopping players like Silva getting into the box which I just cant see happening.
If City score an early goal then I think united players head could drop and they could draw or lose to snderland.
Either way I expect to be surprised and I think the league winner will take it outright depending on which team scores 1st.
Out of interest what is the opinion of most fans on united throwing away an 8 point lead with 6 games left or the supposedly mind game of mancini?
In my opinion Mancini is not the mind games type of person and was probably just being honest. With regards to united bottling it, in my opinion bottling is when you feel pressure, united were not under pressure, they were up 2 goals up and conceded 2 exceptional goals to a team that played out of its skin. irrespective of if united had beat Everton, I never expected them to get a result at Etihad hence I just don’t feel as if they really bottled it. Events conspired against them at crucial period(Everton game) then a possibly superior City team took advantage.
Thoughts!
It wont come down to goal difference

Mind games are a Media Myth. Football matches are won on the pitch, not in a press conference. When United were 8 clear two things needed to happen. City needed to win their remaining games (which they have) and City needed United to drop points (which they have) . The Everton games was a disaster for United, but City beating United twice could also be decisive.

There are three possibilities!
City win the league
United win the league!
Hope this helps.

nightmare scenario is that City drop points but so do United. I was at Upton Park in 1995 and it was a black day.
