Phil Gartside was interviewed by Jimmy Wagg of BBC radio manchester. During the interview he made it clear that he had planned for relegation before the event. Of course that is something that any chairman of a club like ours would normally do. This is because we have flirted with relegation for most of the years we have been in the Prem.
He also said that we stand to loose 25 million by virtue of being relegated. He acknowledged that we have a lot of senior players out of contracts and that they are also the highest earners. The savings from releasing some of these players would amount to 25 million. Obviously that would even out our immediate loss of being relegated.
The object of this article is to highlight the fact that we need not neccessarily have to sell our younger players to stay at status quo, as far as finances are concerned. Some members of the forum have expressed concern hat this may be the situation.
Of course, it doesn't necessarily mean that players won't be sold, but if Eddie and the board are intent on returning to the top flight at the earliest possible oportunity, we have a much stronger chance of keeping the better younger players for the Championship campaign next August.
Apart from NRC possibly on his way, it looks uncertain if Jussi will be with us next season. It's speculation at the moment but it could happen. It's a good job we have some good youngsters coming through the ranks, as there is no doubt we will need them.
