Powell up top!?

Right, so forget the result of playoffs and imagine the Huddersfield match was a League game! We just beat them away from home, which is never an easy task! And in my opinion, Daniel Powell was our best player over the two legs especially last night!

He has proven he can score goals, he has proven he can play well, but can also be frustrating out wide, so why not play him up front on his own from time to time? He's a good target man who can bring the ball down well, control the ball and score goals! Since Wilbraham left, like him or not, we've not really had a proper target man! I don't rate Jabo at all as a target man as he doesn't score goals so he can't be a reliable striker like Powell can be in my opinion!

Is it worth a shot next season? Can he bang in 20 goals if he plays from the start up top every game or so!?

McMaccer, Powell has been involved in 51 games this season against Jabo's 45 and only scored 1 more goal, so if Jabo's not a reliable striker, then never is Daniel.

I don't think ayone in the curernt team is an out and out scorer and when you consider that effectively Justin Rhodes did virtually nothing (except score the two goals that put paid to the Dons promotion prospects) thats the sort of player that is needed.

Given the monetary constraints, if I were Winkie and Robbo, i would be scouring the lower diisions and Blue Square for someone who has scored over 30 goals this season and give them a trial. (Shaw of Gateshead for instance or Danny Kedwell of Gillingham - not done much this season but was consistant when he played for AFCW).

There is only thing Daniel Powell isn't at the moment and that is a target man. He can't jump and I don't think he can hold the ball up against a rugged centre half well, as he gets the ball caught between his feet.

I'm a great admirer of Daniel Powel but he seems to be built wrong for a centre forward (hard to explain it but he just does), even if he is a big guy. He is better on the wing where he can use his pace and stamina, while getting a shot away when he can.

I know exactly what you mean, Furzy, no need to explain but I think he'd be more effective up top! His first touch and ball control in my opinion is very good for his age, remmeber that, he is young and can improve of many things he's lacking!

Bill, because Ibehre was played up front for most of the appearances he played, and most of the goals he got were early season games, since then he's done next to nothing!

Daniel Powell should spend all summer break practicing jumping and holding the ball up with his arms handcuffed behind him. It may not make him a better player but his neighbours will have a hoot.

Completely agree with Mcmaccer. Goal comparisons with Jabo are pointless because hes been played as a winger.

If you watch the Dons week in week out it's not hard to reach the conclusion that Powell is a natural goal scorer and Jabo is not.

However Furz has highlighted his weaknesses in the air. I think we should vary it next year, but certainly play him up front as much as on the wing.

If he continues to play on the wing, he has to learn where to move and when. It's galling watching him run towards Chicksen and bring a defender with him.

I dont think Powell is a centre forward he cant head the ball for a start, as a winger he is pretty quick and tricky.
I would like to see Beavon of Wycombe who scored plenty of goals for a relegated side, or even Mcloud back as he scored about 20 goals for Barnet, and they nearly lost their league place, Donaldson of Brentford is also a handful.
I am sorry to say I think Jabo has had his day.

I'm not sure attendances are down Super. According to ESPN we got 8,685 last season and 8,794 this season. According to our OS site we got 8,695 this season and 8,512 last season.

We can't rely on a sugar daddy while Winkie is going to put a lot of money in new training facilities which will develop our younger players.

Powell is still young and has a lot to learn, in 5 years time we could be looking at Powell and saying he's good in the air! Because he's been in and around the first team for a while we forget he's only young!

Scott Beavon is a good shout though, a lot of people have suggested we make a move for him

Hopefully Ian Wright being a first team coach now can help the strikers to get some goals.

Wrighty has been around for a while. He did OK for a while but then Jabo & MacDonald dried up. Good to see him still in the game though.
