Gerrard - Captain?

So Woy has named Gerrard as captain, therefore ensuring that he is likely to start every game reducing our attacking options to the usual long diagonal ?killer? pass to the corner flag. But with Rooney missing for the first 2 games I expect him to be used further forward. So IMO the likely starting 11:

....................................Joe Hart

Phil Jones.......Gary Cahill........John Terry........Ashley Cole

Theo Walcott...Scott Parker...Frank Lampard...Ashley Young

.........................Steven Gerrard

...........................................Danny Welbeck

Funny how we always here this type of claptrap, regarding gerrard and England, but when push comes to shove, gerrard always looks like the only england player likely to produce something during a game.
Captaincy is well over due, so well done to Steven.

The stats with Gerrard as England Captain are frightening.

Failure to qualify for Euro 2008 as well as the debacle of the last World Cup both happened under Gerrard´s watch as England captain.

I don´t have the exact stats to hand but I think we have something like a 10% win rate with Gerrard as England captain.

It might be even less.

Sorry, when you started discussing long diagonal passes to the corner flag I assumed you were talking about Lumpard.

Stevie never plays in a position to deliver that type of pass for England and Parker couldn't as he can only pass backwards or sideways 5 yards
