Hodgson confirms Carrick ruled himself out

So it's been confirmed by Hodgson and the FA that Carrick ruled himself out of selection for the Euros, if he was only going to be sat on the bench.

People will have differing opinions on Carrick for this, regarding his attitude towards international football etc. I'm not going to bring that up but wanted to focus on something Roy said...

"I'd have to be convinced he was better than the four [central midfielders] I've selected, and that he'd be happy to come out of retirement."

Now on this season's form, how is he not convinced that Carrick is better than Gerrard, Milner and maybe even Parker (who is nowhere near as technically competent as Carrick)?

Gerrard has hardly played due to injuries and when he has played his form hasn't been at the levels we've come to expect. I'm not saying he shouldn't be in the squad but Carrick has played much more football this season and to a consistent high standard.

Milner hasn't featured that much for City towards the end of the season and the FA have said Parker might not even make it to the tournament! So why is Carrick not considered to be pushing for a starting place?! Especially if we are to play 5 in midfield with 3 central players.

There's probably been enough moaning about him not being included, just thought I'd give my opinion on the matter.

Carragher got called a and all sorts when he ''retired'' so is Carrick one aswell?

.......................

I cound only imagine people being happy when Carragher announced his international retirement.

I will be doing back flips round my living room when Stevie and Frank announce theirs.

I'm afraid you can't try and apply logic to anything Hodgson said. His press conference was riddled with inconsistencies and muddled thinking. You only need to look at his rationale for not taking Rio (only a few England games since 2010), and then at the same time taking Gerrard (34 mins for England in 19 months and an injury ravaged season) as a guaranteed starter by making him capt on top.
