6 released
posted on 18/5/12
Six players will be leaving Leicester City upon the completion of their existing contracts this summer.
Elliott Chamberlain, Steve Howard, Matt Oakley, Aleksandar Tunchev, Darius Vassell and Chris Weale have not been offered extensions to their current deals, which expire on June 30.
The Club would like to place on record its thanks to all six players for their hard work and professionalism during their time in City blue and wish them well in the future.

Good luck to them all. It's a shame that Chamberlain didn't make it because I remember he was a good prospect once; perhaps he'll find a career in the lower leagues.
As for the rest - the right decision I think, due to age, injury and the requirement for first team football.

Slightly disappointed about Vassell. He’s capable of giving us a creative spark and has the versatility to play on the wing or as a wide front man so would be a useful squad player.
But only slightly disappointed as, realistically he’d only be a peripheral figure, which is not really what a 31 year old needs.

Not surprised.
Actually predicted 5 of the 6 in an article on the 17th of April - the only one I missed was Chamberlain, who I'd never heard of.
Also went for Mills (obvious reasons) Gallagher (reluctantly) and Waghorne. I now think I will be wrong about Waggy (fits Pearson's huffing and puffing style) but I almost find myself in agreement with Nige.
It must be that Friday feeling.

My sentiments exactly Joby

I'm a little sad to see Vassell go as well, but I guess you can't be sentimental when making these decisions - guess it would be too much money to be paying out for someone who may not start many games or may have an injury set-back.
I think any movement concerning players still in contract will be a little bit of a slower process - anyone still with a contract who we were going to bite the bullet and release (i.e. Paintsil) would have gone by now.
Of the players we have which Pearson will want to sell, I don't think any will be wanted that much by clubs that they will be looking to get the deal done early.
I think it will be a case of, other clubs seeing and comparing who else they can get, and us seeing what sort of offers come in through the summer (with regard to SSL for example, IF Pearson is considering letting him go, there is no way he will sell him before the Euro's as good performances there [if he plays] could double his value).

It's a shame Elliot has been released, however there were concerns over his natural fitness as he was sent back from a loan spell earlier this season.
I actually went to school with Elliot and I can tell you now he was strong, had lightning pace and technically very good as well.
Hope he has a good career ahead of him and a club will pick him up and see the promise he showed back in his mid teens.
