That is the question, with all the palaver over whether we stay at Anfield or move to a new stadium(yet to be named)there are a few things that are being forgotten, iconic as Anfield is its the team that plays there and the fans that fill it that make it iconic, its the fans that create the Anfield roar, its the fans that create the atmosphere, its been said we will lose the Kop but again its the Liverpool supporters who stood there over the years who made it the Spion Kop,a name with such meaning that clubs all over call where their most ardent fans congregate their Kop,so does anyone really belive that if we move a few yards to a new stadium in Stanley park that when its filled with Reds supporters watching the mighty Redmen and singing You'll never walk alone it wont have its own special atmosphere,of course it will because we will all be there to make certain of it,it will probably have its own Kop a new Kop but still the Kop.

I seem to remember the same arguments about losing the atmosphere when we went to all seater stadia too. As much as I'd love us to stay at Anfield, I just don't think it's a viable option. If we're moving out, then I hope they make the new stadium something really special.

I've never been to the Emirates but I'm pretty sure the atmosphere is not the same as Highbury. Also, with Old Trafford, the bigger it's got the more subdued the atmosphere. To counter that, there always seems to be a great atmosphere at St James Park. I think you will lose something if you move but also think by increasing your capacity by 15-20 thousand a little bit of that special Anfield atmosphere will go.

The atmosphere is not that great these days except for the occasional special game.

You don't often hear people complaining about the Bernabéu (80,000+) or Camp Nou (90,000+)

Of course, I'm referring to the atmosphere in them.

I think the reality is we will get squashed by sheer spending power of other clubs if we don't move to a bigger stadium. There's very little room for sentiment in modern sport, it's all to do with the money.

Yes, it is business. That's what football is nowadays. Fans like me, who have supported the reds for 30+ years, can often find it hard to accept that it's no longer the game we fell in love with, but that's progress I suppose. It makes economic sense to move and it will be easier to build a stadium from scratch than to refurfurbish Anfield with an extra 10,000+ new seats. With a heavy heart, I say it is probably the logical way forward. But with naming rights up for grabs, meaning the stadium will probably be renamed every few years, I can't help but feel that another part of our great clubs heritage will die. I just hope that if/when they build a new stadium, they try to remain faithful (as much as can be) to Anfield- incorporating a Kop area etc.
