Rafa to take centre stage ?

Good morning to all.

As there wont be champions league football at the lane this coming season, we all know its going to be very difficult to keep Modric and Bale at spurs.
Im confident Bale will stay but if a bid of 30-40 mil comes in for Luka i think we will and should sell this time around.

Dont get me wrong i think our Croation maestro is a fantastic player. He instigates our play and technically he is outstanding. I do however feel we have the player to step into his midfield birth - Rafa van der Vart.

Like Modric he is a fantastic passer of the ball and alongside Sandro or Parker he can instigate our play and obviously score plenty from midfield.
He also plays centre midfield for Holland
With Ledley not playing often i would make Rafa our new club captain.
He is experienced, a proven winner, Vocal on the pitch and has fantastic enthusiasm for the game.

I know it was only one game but when we played Newcastle at home last season we played two out and out strikers Adebayor and Saha in a 442 and with Adebayor playing a support role for Saha it worked a treat.
Ive always believed Adebayor is at his best playing behind another striker.

With the money we get for Modric, for example 35 million, we could sign Loic Remy and Adebayor and also afford to pay Adabayor a huge signing on fee to go with a salary that fits into our wage structure.
We would then have Defoe and Saha as back up strikers.

If we also sold Gomes, Corluka, Bassong, Bentley, Pienaar, Dos antos and Kranjcar we would have the money to sign a young goal keeper, Jan Vertonghen, Adam Johnson and Hoilett.

Your thoughts please guys.

Dembele is the obvious replacement for Modric if he goes.

amazing.

completely different players imo

I'm not so sure Chronic. He plays a bit further up for Fulham but in terms of the way he plays I think he's very similar. He's got a better shot on him too

Let's face it, Modric is a one-off though really, there's not many in the world who would be a direct replacement.

thats because he is an out and out attacking midfielder, and modric isnt.

Again, i'm not so sure - Dempsey has that role for them. Dembele is the one that makes the chances.

Chronic

My article was all about Rafa replacing Modric in cm.
We would also have Huddlestone aswell to play the creative midfield role.

Regarding other comments, i think Rafa has the experience and know how to play a more disciplined cm role. If Luka can do it so well why cant Rafa?

personally i would describe danny murphy as the luka modric of the fulham team.. keeps things ticking over.

dembele and dempsey are both like vdv

Murphy's a poor man's Parker, his job is to win the ball and give it to Dembele, who give it to Dempsey, who scores.

Modric plays too deep for us anyway, while i'm not saying the lad's as good (who is?) I think he'd fit in and do well for us

i would be up for chasing dembele.. not convinced with him as cm though. definately not in a two. maybe in a three with hudd and sandro anchoring him

Hudd anchoring him?

Fair play. I don't think anyone wants Modric to go really, will be the best of a bad job. Arsenal have done alright with Arteta
