Moving away from the Hazard/Kagawa talk for a second, there's an interesting (and probably totally fabricated) snippet from Kicker saying we're interested in Javi Martinez, although Bayern are favourites.

If you ask me, this is the best signing we could make this summer and would be well worth the reported fee. I just can't see it happening though (as we seem to be saying about any big name lately), if he leaves Bilbao I'm sure it will be for one of Spain's top two.

22/5/2012: Kicker claims Bayern Munich are winning the race to sign Javi Martinez, despite interest from top clubs in Spain and both United and City. The Champions League runners-up are seriously considering paying the Athletic Bilbao star's buy-out clause of €40million, according to the German sports paper.

If we were to bring in Martinez and Kagawa, we'd be well set for next season I reckon and surely wouldn't be spending more than £50m!

He`s another name that doesn`t seem to go away.

Definitely got the ability.

It`s the little disclaimer that takes the shine off these stories though!

that columns brilliantly funny, rafael to Chelsea? haha

in the summer, consistently they work out a total of a 1bn+ of new players but like 50 million going out

That little calculator thing kills me too! They had us down at spending close to a billion last summer with virtually the entire starting eleven moving on!

I've seen a few press articles linking us to Martinez over the last few days, but obviously all made up.

However, this is exactly why I hope we aren't in for Hazard. Martinez would be a much more sensible way to spend 30-35m of our summer transfer budget given the priority needs of the team.

I like what i`ve seen of strootman too.

Strootman is class. For value Strootman and Sahin would be the two.

I`ve heard a lot of people mention sahin, haven`t seen a lot of him. Wasn`t he at dortmund before hand?

They seem to have a fetish for the bundesliga, the way they did for the dutch leagues a few years back!

Bargains to be had!

Not seen Strootman play at all but heard a lot of positive things about him. Has there been anything mentioned at all regarding United interest in him?

From what I've heard he sounds just the type of player we need. Will he be in the dutch starting XI at the Euros?

He`s keeping de jong out by all accounts!

All i`ve seen of him is youtube footage to be honest

Possibly. Then again if Hazard turns out to be as good as most of Europe expects our attacking line up would be more than god enough to compensate for our midfield issues.

The reason I rule out Martinez is Fegry said he will not be signing a defensive midfielder, we are talking about a guy who plays at centre half as often as he does the anchor man role. Just don’t see it I’m afraid. Though I'd love to sign him, it seems a more mobile, box to box type will be coming in, rumours of Asamoah are very strong.
