BBC Sport chief football writer Phil McNulty on Twitter: "Lots of speculation in the Austrian media today that Man Utd are showing serious interest in Bayern Munich's young defender David Alaba."

I hope this speculation is true. If we sign Alaba, I think it would be a really good signing. He could be our replacement for Evra in a couple of years time as Alaba is only 19 years old. He has all the qualities to succeed, pace and strength in abundance to cope in the EPL. As well as predominately playing LB, He can play central midfield and on the wings so is very versaltile which is always good. The only difficulty would be to prize him away from Bayern. He would be a much better option than Baines who we are trying to sign for around £12m.
Thoughts?
David Alaba

If Alaba was German then i wouldn't see him leaving, but because he's not, there may be a slight possibility. Although he is a starter for them a LB and if were to come to us, he wouldn't be guaranteed to play ahead of Evra.

alaba, I am pretty sure he is a centre midfielder, who was deployed as an emergency left back and did alright

According to some papers, we have started formal talks with Everton for Baines.

I think after the last few summers and missing out on targets like nasri and schneider I think united have adopted a more sweeping manner of transfer dealing. We are probably in negations and talks with a number of clubs and players in case one or the other falls through

Don't think Bayern would be daft enough to let him go, if I could pick an LB to go for it would be Alaba.
He looks like a great prospect and is very young!

Let's hope so. It would be good to get all our signings done by the start of pre-season.

He's a decent LB. I personally prefer Baines as he is already > Evra but Alaba in a few years will undoubtedly be better than both.

if we are going to sign a lb we need someone that will either replace evra right now or give him serious competion
we have fryers and fabio who could potentially be good enough in a year or two we don't need another.
evra needs replacing or competition tough enough to consider his place under imminent danger.
