A little confusion cleared up

I have hetherto been a little confused as to why the was so little defence of the club from former players.

If it was my club I would expect former players to be queueing up to make a vigorous defence of my club and their dealings. However, apart from a few instances, there has been little defence by former players. Puzzling.

The list of former players who the BBC alledged were payed large sums possibly answers my confusion. If they did receive any form of additional payments then why would they put their heads above the parapet and risk scrutiny.
