New Players

I understand a thread was similar a few days back, but realistically who could we get.
A work collegue of mine really rates a young lad at Arsenal called Ozyakup,he thinks he would be ideal for us next season on loan.

I would have liked Guidetti at City on loan last season but after his goals in Holland maybe the Championship is unlikely.Bennythedip and I were having a little drink talking to some City fans recently and they say Andy Coles son will be a belter, maybe worth a sniff.
Also if Midfield is depleated maybe look at Owen Hargreaves on a pay as you play type of contract, fitness dependant obviously but apparantley he is fit again.
Benny also informs me that Chelsea owe us a loan over Garys transfer, now I dont know if the man in the chippy has told him that, but he is adament or amadent as Dave Higson used to say.Plenty of young talent there like Lakuka but what about Josh Mc whatever.
I also acknowledge we need centre backs so any thoughts anyone?.

Firstof, most clubs loan out to the championship, so I doubt getting managers to loan out players to our club in the league.

As many people have already said, we don't want to lumber ourself with a number of Championship quality players on three year contracts, we might as well make the best of the loan system.

I doubt the likes of Wilshere, Sturridge and players of that quality would have been loaned to us if we'd been a Championship side. Yes, we'll probably be able to get one or 2 in ....but not of the quality that we're used to.

I'm not saying that, I'm saying that there will still be some decent loan players out there for the league we are in ....

There were some excellent players playing in the Championship last season on loan from PL clubs. Yes, not as good as Wilshere or Sturridge, but then, they don't have to be, do they? They will be playing at a lower level.

We are going to have to BUILD a team sometime (yeah, I know ... a novel concept in this day n' age ), and not rely totally on loan players year in, year out ...maybe this is our chance to do that...y'know ..the 'Big Plan' we hear so much about. It's alright to say we don't want a load of Championship players under contract ...but in reality, that's what we ARE now.....

Loan players need to be used as a stop-gap ..not a permanent solution. I don't recall Reading, Southampton and W Ham being stuffed full of big name loanees .....

Firstof, if signing, say, a striker on loan, is the difference between finishing 2nd and 7th this season, then I think I'll have him on loan, rather than signing a lesser striker on a four year deal.

All three of Southampton, Reading and especially West Ham used the loan system last season, do you want to argue we shouldn't do it so we can - in your view - build a team?

Loans is a good option if they are to be given a chance. I don't agree with resigning knight. If he is not good enough then go for someone that is.

Look at it this way firstof, if we sign a few players on loan to supplement our current squad we will be paying a percentage of their wages for one season.

We have currently slashed our wage bill by about 50%.

If our current squad plus loans get us back up then we still have that lower wage budget plus massive increase in income, plus prize money from promotion which can then be used to rebuild the squad.

I agree that loan signings aren't the way forward long term. However there is nothing wrong with taking advantage of that market in our attempts to regain Premiership status.

Whatever it takes to get back up is the goal.

As of today we don't have enough players to do it IMO. As the summer progresses lets see where we are with signings.
Many posters thought that Lee & Holden coming back would make everything grand again....now there are rumblings of Lee being off. So Holden coming back is fantastic but his is one good kick on the shin from going back out on injury.
If Jussi & Zat go then we are way short of a decent 5 a side team to me.
Bottom line is that until we see who is gone and who comes in then predictions of our season will make more sense.

Well of course ...but loans don't come with such guarantees, unfortunately. Yes ...whatever it takes to get us up this season ...I see the point of that (as I've already said it's sh£t or bust next season, I guess I have to! ). Just worrys me a bit ... gettin' into a culture of RELYING on loanees, without doing something about the problem you're tryin' to hide. We did that last year ...Sturridge saved our bacon, and the management expected he'd be back the following season again ..or they could loan another top player instead ..... but that ' reliance ' went pear-shaped, and then (panic, panic) we failed to bring in anybody adequate enough, and went down as a result. We don't want to be a nursery team for the Premiership, but OK, let's see what's on offer ...but look at more permanent long term options too ...
