pride of watchin england gone?

im just surprised at my self how im not really bothered england are playing tonight, yes its a friendly but still, and yes i'll still watch it, though its not exciting as watching my team play and it so should be and more, anyone feel the same way?

who's to blame for the lack of pride in our country's football team? i personally think its the FA, from down to the grass root level to the manager of england

tonight roy should play his near enough best 11 so they can gel for the euro but instead decides to start with rob green and andy carroll, whats that going to achieve?

i remember a time when i used to watch england play with pride and believe we had a good chance at winning a tournament

i hate feeling this way but its like everything else in this country at the moment, shoddily done!

rant over, thanks for reading

true spurtle,

but i didn't pick the team did i,

also Defoe is nearly 30 or is 30 isn't he? Carroll is only 23 and should have plenty of energy, we have only recently seen effort from him in a red shirt admittedly, but he is a lot younger with time on his side,a player who we should be bedding in rather than a player who is probably sadly to late for him only going to be a bit part player.

if Carroll had remained crap all season i would have no argument and would have to agree with you, but he has come into form lately, and looks hungry at the right time, and also like i said is a lot younger, which may help in the fitness issues part of the game.

i wish Defoe had been given his chance properly years ago when we could have benefited from it, probably instead of Heskey, but we don't pick the teams do we.

we are all just frustrated fans who moan and whine, but we all still love the game and support the team, or should do!

I have a feeling England are gonna do really well(semi/final) this tournament. Expectations are so low so there's bound to be a surprise. And I see Oxlade Chamberlain doing a Rooney/Owen and being the new youngster to have Englands hopes at his feet in coming tournaments.

I don't see him playing to be honest.

The team in the first game will be

---------------------------------Hart---------------------------------
Johnson-------------Cahill-------------Terry-------------Cole
Walcott--------------Parker----------Gerrard---------Young
-----------------------------Lampard-------------------------------
-------------------------Wellbeck or Carroll------------------------

Expectations were low for New Zealand last world cup and look where they ended up.

is that the actual formation/line up dependabledenis?

Would personally swap Gerrard and Lampard round, as Lampard is used to running from deep to attack where as Gerrard is better in the more forward position.

said on SSN that the attack was going to be led by Carroll and Young, not sure what that means? does it mean they are both up front as a pair, or just generalising as they are both attacking players?

Your argument about their ages is invalid. We're only talking about a 3 week tournament, this isn't some season long campaign. Even then at age 30 you're closer to your physical/mental peak than you are at Carroll's age. Plus Defoe has probably played less games than Carroll has this season so out of the 2 you'd expect him to have more energy.

Really can't see your point at all on that sorry.

even after they have just finished a season long campaign, and probably be playing in heat for another 3 weeks?

i would say a 23yrd old would cope with it better than a 30 yrd old.

also we should be bedding in Carroll and giving him as many games a poss as him and Wellbeck unless other names come up, will probably be the way forward for England along with Rooney whether we agree with it or not.

i have already said i wish Defoe had been given his opportunity before now, but we should be looking at younger players to take us forward, there is enough moaning about the old players playing now and you want Defoe, or is that some sort of club issue as he is your player and not/maybe benefit England?

No he didn't but look at the two teams, then at the groups and then tell me you think we'll get out of that group. Ox is like Walcott when Sven took him, he's along for the ride, maybe he might get a sub run out but that's all.

Jenners, yes that's the lay out, Roy will want Gerrard to sit closer to his back four and let Lampard go forward more. I still think they won't know what's expect of them and for me I wouldn't have taken Lampard, I'd have given a kid like Cleverly the chance, with Jones, Gerrard, Parker asnd Barry there's more then enough to play in them middle if there are some injuries, Lampard is yesterdays man

I totally agree OP, I'm so unfussed about England playing tonight. The Roy factor certainly hasn't helped, nor has his squad selection, but then again when are friendlies ever any good anyway.

I may tune in hoping Norway put 8 past us, and Roy cracks after game one and resigns in the toilet a la Keegan
