The final nail has just been hammered into the blunts' coffin. This loss to Huddersfield in the play-off final spells the beginning of the end for them. Clearly they will now have to sell off their greatest assetts in order to keep afloat and the new generation of fans will start to follow the biggest team in the city.......the Massive! They took a gamble in holding on to their best players last season, probably with the idea of us both being in the same league, but now, with us having triumphantly left the pub league, they'll probably have to balance their books, especially with their gates getting smaller day by day. I can honestly see them spending a good few years in the third tier, while we will probably become serious contenders for the Prem. At last common sense prevails as the best supported team in Yorkshire finally awakens from its long sleep. This time we have everything in place to get back to where we truly belong.....the promised land. We have a great chairman and owner whose solitary ambition is to take us to the top. We have a brilliant manager whose knowledge of the championship is second to none, We have the greatest fans outside a handful in the Prem., we have a great stadium that, with a few alterations, will once again be able to compete with the greatest in the land and we have a history that shows we have, for too long, been punching beneath our weight. I can only see the blunts' demise as totally beneficial to enlarging our gates and helping our cause. We are the Massive....we are the Wednesday and we are on the march back to the top! UTO!!

Can't see it. They don't have the financial clout they used to have and their fans aren't as loyal as ours.

I wonder if he'll retain Agent Wilson.

They'd have gone up in an automatic spot if Evans hadn't been banged up.....can't blame Wilson for that.

So, he deserves a 2nd season.

I thought it was in his "contract" with Wednesday that this season was just about consolidating their position in League 1!! He cut it close in the end but came through with flying colors!!
His contract goes on to say that season 2 is where he really gets to the job of ruining them for years!!!

Looking at an article relating to the Blunts debt at the start of the season, it suggested that this season would be a case of do or die..
..quoting Wilson, half way through the season ' hope we can hold on to Ched Evans ' suggested that McCabe was already on the track of selling and a shoe string strategy, even if they gained promotion..
..can't see them spending for next season with their once prized asset being no longer..
..and without him, they are currently a zero man team.

At least they can look forward to derbies at Donny Dingles and Rotherham in 2 years if they can survive

Sheffield United will have to cut wage bill
Sheffield United chairman Kevin McCabe has revealed the last two seasons have cost the club £15m.
United missed out on promotion from League One at the first attempt after losing 8-7 on penalties to Huddersfield in the play-off final.
"The last two seasons have cost about £15m, with a high wage bill and less revenue," he told BBC Radio Sheffield.
"With the new financial fair play rules we are going to have to work with a lower budget next season."
He added: "Unless we get the wage bill down next season then we'll face financial penalties."
McCabe moved to allay fears that needing to reduce the budget would mean any of the club's top performers would need to be sold on.

“The club is in good hands with a top class manager at the helm and one aim for next season - automatic promotion”
Kevin McCabe Sheffield United chairman
Young centre-half Harry Maguire, full-back Matthew Lowton and midfielder Stephen Quinn have both been linked with moves to teams in higher divisions.
"I'd love to keep hold of them and there is certainly no 'for sale' signs on their heads," McCabe continued.
"They've all had great seasons and we don't want to lose them, but obviously we have a problem if someone comes in and offers them a package we can't match."
The Blades chairman encouraged fans to not be negative after a painful end to the season.
Having seen local rivals Sheffield Wednesday pip them to automatic promotion, their failure to go up through the play-offs means United have been unsuccessful in all six of their play-off campaigns.
"Our supporters must forget being down-hearted. We've had a successful season that has ended in failure but we must look forward," he concluded.
