Falling away at the end?

You mean the last lap when the game was over anyway.

hamilton had a bad start. It was his own fault. Button, never rated him look at his stats before he moved to McLaren.

Every car has a launch control system. If it doesn't work properly its the teams fault. Also Hamilton didn't lose a place at the start. He was 3rd and stayed 3rd.

He lost 2 places because of a poor pitstop/strategy. They need to look at quali in Q3. What Vettel did isn't that different from what Mclaren did last time out. Exploit the rules to get optimal advantage in the race

I dont know how the pitstops or the strategy can be blamed on him losing 2 places though.

Alonso's in lap was much better and he appeared to manage his tyres better during the first stint.

Vettel appeared to have the best strategy but every driver could complain about that not just hamilton. The fact that Hamilton's tyres seemed to be going off by the end of the first stint, with Alonso lapping considerably faster, suggests that he had gone as far as he could on that set anyway though.

Indeed. Mclaren got the strategy wrong for both of their drivers

Indeed. Mclaren got the strategy wrong for both of their drivers
===============

Daredevil, what is your view on the following then :

What should the strategy have been for each driver ?

How was Mclaren's strategy worse than any of the other teams aside from Red Bull ?

What results would the Mclaren drivers have obtained today if the team had used the strategies which you think they should have employed ?

JPB

Strategy wise;

I'll start with JB, since they saw that the Caterham was preventing him from moving up the field, he should have pitted earlier and achieved the undercut and wouldn't have been hehind him for most of the race

With LH, when Alonso was closing, they should have pitted Hamilton before Rosberg pitted. That would have forced Mercedes and RedBull to react. You may argue that the tyres may have not lasted but it's nigh on impossible to overtake and LH could have easily finished on the podium.

Mclaren's wait for others to do something before reacting strategy was worse than Ferrari's because FA started to push before his pitstop. LH tyres were going off already. If he had blinked earlier, he would have had achieved the undercut as FA would have been stuck behind Rosberg, not going anywhere fast.

As for your last point, LH could have easily got on the podium. Not so sure about JB, but the top 10 wasn't impossible

FA started to push before his pitstop
======================

I can understand some of waht you say, including Button pitting sooner, but I just dont get this statement at all. I appreciate that the driver is reliant upon feedback from his team as well as his own reading of the car, but ultimately it's the driver who has to do the pushing. As I saw it, Alonso had managed his tyres better than Hamilton during the first stint and was significantly quicker at the end of it as a result, which enabled him to leapfrog Hamilton. I don't regard this as a team strategy error, but just the driver car combination of Alonso being more effective than that of Hamilton.

It's an error by the team mate. They could see the lap times Alonso was putting in and could have warned LH to pick up the pace or pit him so he won't be compromised by Alonso.

Ferrari then nailed their pitstop and Mclaren did a slower one and Hamilton was compromised as a result
