Englands Anchorman

Contrary to popular wummery, who else feels Gareth Barry's exclusion from the Euros will have a major impact on our play.

I have said this previously that i would line up with Barry, Parker with Gerrard as a midfield trio, we need to ensure we dont loose the midfield battle if we are to have even the slightest of successes. Ok so i digress.

The point of this article is the replacement .. .Jagielka ?!?!?!

So our only real anchorman is Scotty Parker, who as great as he is, has been through World War 3 this season, the injury risk is high.

So why do we not have another player in that mould as a backup, I mean this is Hodgson, i would have though he gets wet at the mere thought of a defensive destroyer.

Who else could have gone?

I would have to say Carrick would have been a good option as a disciplined midfielder who would sit there and keep the ball moving, the more possession we have the less chance of needing to "break up play".

Henderson - Too young and inexperienced for the coming Euros. Great work ethic no doubt.

Your views are welcome.

Scholes is amuch better passer of the ball than Carrick, or any other English player in fact.

I don't agree.

Carrick.

Well Scholes had the highest pass completion ratio in the PL, and was the only player over 90% and has an unbelievable range of passing.

Certinaly would say he is a better passer of the ball than Carrick and Rooney, but I guess that's my opinion.

I've got to contradict you there, because Leon Britton had the best pass completion rate of any player in Europe's top five leagues at the completion of the Premier League, with 93.5% x

I'd also like to include the stat that Stewart Downing attempted 72 shots and 55 key passes, the most without scoring a goal or registering an assist in the Premier League x

He also had 1,200 odd passes and an 81% passing rate, which isn't bad for a winger who crosses the ball a lot.

This is hardly surprising since his job was just touching it to the nearest person.

Ahh, perhaps it was just since his return? I have seen it somewhere, think it was Sunday Supplement.

Regardless, it's very good but as I said before, his job is to just keep the ball moving and he is very intelligent with it. However players like Gerrard make things happen, although not so often this season and it's inevitable they'll lose the ball more often. For example, Lucas is our highest, or one of the highest and he was out half the season. I believe only one player of this type is needed in a 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 which was suggested.
