Robrea,
I'm not sure shortlists are indicative of anything. People are linked to jobs sometimes because they have previous links to the club and so are perceived as having a feel for it: I gather Graeme Jones is 1-6 on for the Swansea job as he was assistant to Martinez & similar Mackay of Cardiff to Norwich as an ex-player.

I guess STs have gone down for a number of reasons: some fans disillusioned with the board and lack of investment; with the manager and brand of football; and probably the economy is the main one. It's not cheap to go to matches esp if you have to travel.

Yes, I thought the same about the Kuwaiti buying a club, what with Glick's departure, but I think it's Forest.

Definitely an interesting few weeks ahead with comings/goings. Let's hope we bring in a decent striker or two.

would you want a kuwaiti owning the club?

pompey have been owned by oligarchs and that did them a load of good....

its HOW not WHO......

I don't think anybody would mind where a well-to-do owner comes from as long as things are done responsibly. Portsmouth paid wages beyond the reach of many PL clubs bar the elite. I also think Harry Redknapp played a part.

I admire the approach that we have taken, partly out of necessity but also choice. Let's be honest here. I would resent it if Forest get a well-to-do owner because they would patronise us. I prefer it when they have a bit of humility. They're insufferable when they start patting us on the head.

nah, they are insufferable anyway.

just shows how screwed our beloved football is that anyone can be pleased a kuwaiti could conceivably own an english football club. the whole thing is utterly mad.

how is it possible that "billionaires" like th glaziers and that pompey bloke can "buy" a club using the club that they dont own as collateral. huh? wtf is that about?
is that how the kuwaiti works.

So are we only about the Academy now? This is basically saying, come and watch youngsters trying to make it into a Championship team whereas I thought DCFC was about trying to win the Championship.

This is jst typical of advertising bullcrap feeding the masses positive stories in the hope they will buy into it and ignore the fact that we need investment in the first team as well as blooding a few kids.

It reminds me of Tories trying to push a bill through Parliment, the first draft will have some horrendous policy in there to deflect attention from the real bones. It'll get watered down but the bones will remain. This is the same, deflecting attention from the real issues and then maybe one striker will be enough to make the masses believe all is OK.

Kernow,
It's a good question you pose. Perhaps it is best to view football as part of a bigger problem. The FA should check owners - 'fit & proper person criteria' - but I think even these have been bypassed.

I don't understand the economic crisis in detail, but Robert Peston's BBC programmes are enlightening for the layperson. It is all about borrowing against what you don't own (a house), the failure to regulate properly & the bypassing of rules.

So, I guess football, being about money now (it probably always has been with the demise of amateur clubs in the early 20th century due to sides turning professional and paying players) just reflects wider society, unfortunately.

I'll be honest with you. I guess I wouldn't mind a well-to-do owner if they were reputable (Doughty for instance) - but in the meantime, you can/have to do things your own way and draw satisfaction from that.

I'm pleased that our Academy is doing well. We need to give these kids time and not think they are going to be world beaters; if they do a job for us, great. I am looking forward to seeing Will Hughes if I get the chance and take as much as pride/pleasure in seeing a promising player as I do in seeing a big money signing.

Iwas,
We definitely could do with more investment to take us to the next stage, but GSE don't possess the wherewithal. The only alternative I see is that we sell a promising player in the future, like Southampton have done, and then reinvest across the team.

I think we also have to face facts that we, or should that be Mess(e)rs Jewell/Davies, have wasted money. Claude Davis and Robbie Savage probably cost the club £10m regarding transfer fees with no return (£3.25m & £1.5m) & wages (£15k pw for Davis, I think, Savage £24k) & a pay off for Davis who had a year left on his deal, I think.

*Checked an old BBC page and Davis had two years left. I bet it didn't come cheap getting shot of him.
