When Man Utd sold Ronaldo for £80 million, the fee should never have been disclosed. This fee is what has started a ridiculous trend of spending astronomical amounts of cash on players. As soon as the fee was disclosed, all the world class players value increased by at least £10 million or £15 million.
This has also made the gap between the rich clubs & poor clubs wider. For SAF to continue to be successful, he has no choice but to spend at least £60 million in this current transfer market. Even if he does spend this amount, we will be in no way guaranteed success. If we don't spend big this summer, we for sure won't win the BPL or the UCL. A blind man could see that.
If SAF doesn't get to spend big now, he should retire so that his unbelievable record doesn't get tarnished. He is a legend & he should walk away if he's not given the resources to compete with the best.

If United didn't disclose it the fans would've been beyond p issed. We weren't happy at selling him, but the £80 million softened it a little.

Blame Real, they set the trend by paying 50 million for Kaka.

Not just Kaka, Madrid started it with the whole Galactico nonsense.

It'd be amazing if there was a panel that decided on how much a player was worth - Adding all the necessary factors and so forth
I know realistically, this would never work as there are a handful of problems with it, but it'd be nice to keep clubs from over-flating prices and everyone in the market is being brought for a reasonable price.

Very true but the £80 million didn't benefit the club that much. We certainly never spent that much to replace the un-replaceable.
