Just another Carrick article

I knows there's been a lot of talk about Carrick and people slate him for withdrawing himself from England selection but hear me out.

Let's picture the scenario. The last time Carrick was involved with the England squad was as an unused substitute against Switzerland and Bulgaria back in September 2010. He was also an unused substitute 5 games in a row in May/June 2010. He played for an hour against Mexico that same may and came on as a substitute in March that year. We need to go back to 2009 since his last proper involvement with the squad.

Now lets go back 6 months ago when Capello was still in charge, do any of you really blame him for telling the FA he didn't want to be considered for selection when he hasn't featured for 2 years????

We need to get off Carrick's back, I don't blame him at all for withdrawing himself from selection when he was wasting his time considering he wasn't in the managers plans.

Anyway 6 months later, Hodgson becomes manager. I'm sure if he had spoken to Carrick and said look there's new management now, there's a role for you in MY team if you'd like to reconsider yourself for selection then im sure Carrick would have accepted his role and then none of these problems would have occurred.

At the end of the day, the blame lies solely with Hodgson, he's the manager and he should have spoken to Carrick who has been one of the best English midfielders this season. A lot changes in 6 months and Hodgson messed it up IMO.

Going back 6 months do any of you guys blame Carrick considering he wasn't part of Capello's plans and hadn't featured in 2 years, I know for sure I would rather go on holiday than go away with the England camp and watch everyone else play and not get a chance. I mean its not like he's in his early twenties, he's 31 nearly, how many of you would want to waste your time when you know there's no involvement for you?

England's loss is United's gain. Same goes with Rio.

Can't see either ever playing for England again, sadly.

The thing is that Carrick wasnt/isnt part of Hodgsons initial plans. He told the press that he thought Parker, Gerrard, Lampard and Barry were better than Carrick anyway. Now with injuries and poor possession Carrick is brought up so he's talking about how his hands were tied putting all the blame on Carrick which is unfair as he hasn't even spoken to him.
And Hodgson has really made a mockery of the standby list. He's picked all these under performing Liverpool players and ignored the Newcastle, Everton and Swansea players who've had a good seasons.
Anyway I saw an article on The Independent site about how Hodgson spoke to Foster to get him to reconsider international retirement! #doublestandards
