Guys there is alot of negative on the site regarding the failure to bring Rodrigo to the Reebok; OC cearly wanted him but the club has a budget and other targets and we have to move on. Paying over the odds in fees and wages leads you down the path of Leeds, Portsmouth, Birmingham and Hull. ( Bullard's Wages are still preventing Hull from re-building their team). Is anyone suggesting we go down this route? Sunderland have been most active in the market spending the money from Bent and Henderson but how are they going to finance all the extra wages for the ~ 10 players they have brought in we certainly couldn't do it on crowds of 21k.
The transfer market is in a gridlock and suggest you read Jonathan Northcroft's article in the Sunday Times who can express it far better than I but in summary
* The bigger clubs are trying to move all their dross for high fees but there are no takers ( Palacios £15m, Kranjcar £12m .........)
* Agents are looking tp push up wages due to the extra Sky money
* There is Gulf Oil money in France, Spain and Italy all now now competeing for the world's best players which is again preventing movement lower down the pecking order.
If anyone is suggesting we should bid for Bendtner, Keane or pay £40k a week in wages for Darren Gibson then please feel free to articulate it here ! If I have a disappointment it would be David Vaughan I think he would have been a real asset to us. I put my view on the transfer market on the site a couple of weeks ago and it has not changed; our future lies in finding players such as Stuart Holden, Dann, Adam etc and developing them as we do not have the resources to buy big in the transfer market or fund the asscociated wages.
Yes the squad is thin but none of the players we have let go would have been first team picks and it is far better to pick up a few Bosmans in the last couple of weeks of the window on lower wages.
Ranting at the owner, Phil Gartside or OC because they won't pay over the odds for a player is not the way forward.

He was under contract when Coyle arrived at the club, Coyle made the decision not to give him a new deal hence taking him oif our wage bill so yes that to me means Coyle got rid of McCann.

McCann was already injured when Coyle came to the club and although if he was fit, I'm not sure he would have offered him a new contract.
Coyle gave McCann a chance to get fit and prove himself but he couldn't recover so retired.

Thats what I was gunning at Moses, Coyle gave McCann the chance, so it wasn't entirely Coyle getting rid.
Same result either way.

Etiquette states that you don't let a player go when he's nobbled. We even renewed JOB's contract when he was on the physios bench and only released him when he he got back on his feet.
I suppose it's only fair when they are injured in the line of duty.
McCann, btw, had already planned for his retirement having gained his coaching licences and has his own football coaching academy in his hometown of Lytham.
Must be a good move by our club to offer him a coaching position with us.

Rumbled under her previous name, then watched her. Early morning comments, usually abusive on the Liverpool boards, then talk of tennis. Then was the usual anti English anything, finished with the subtle Kevin Davies put downs...
When I told her I was onto her, she's suddenly a bloke born in Bolton studying in Norwich...
Bless...

Doe's it really matter who got rid of who? The bloke it drawing his wage from our coffers anymore same as the rest of the dead wood that wouldn't get a game for us anymore.
They are gone and we have a bigger wage budget thanks too that
Thats a good point from Wheats as well with the tour going on for 2 weeks we won't be seeing any comings or goings so we are looking end of July to the start of August before new players can start arriving.
