Federer suffered a straight sets loss to Novak Djokovic yesterday evening. He was ahead in both the first 2 sets, yet too many unforced errors kept on creeping in and he lost. Djo moved to the final of the FO for the first time to face Nadal. Nadal has beaten Fed every time they have met here. Djo on the other hand has beaten Nadal in the last 3 GS finals.
So my question is: Are you happy as a fed-fan that Federer lost yesterday and hence avoided a possible loss to Nadal in the finals. Looking at Fed's level till the semis and his record on clay against Nadal, he probably would have lost the finals. nadal fans would have got another one for their favorite h2h count. So it it better for Federer to lose to someone else than Nadal?
Djo on the other hand has the best chance of beating Nadal. He has beaten him on the last 3 of the GS finals. So is it better for Fed fans that Djo gets to beat Nadal as he definitely is likely to do it?
My take take on this is. NO. As a Fed fans I enjoy his game and his wins. I rather prefer Fed to lose in a final than lose in a semis. I know Fed has never beaten Nadal in RG, but I also know that if he gets his best game, he surely can. With hope there is pain as well. But I wanted him to have that another opportunity. But perhaps its might work for Fed for the rest of the year. lets see.
Do I enjoy seeing Nadal lose? Yes, Nadal's success has brought a lot ugliness to tennis which I don't like. Sadly tennis moved in the direction to favor his kind of play. The result now is utter predictability with same-old pattern of percentage tennis. No variety, no factor of surprise, ugly brute force game. Seeing the empty seats and the dull atmosphere at RG, I do hope for a change soon.
But more than Nadal's loss, I prefer to watch Fed win.
Are you happy as a Federer fan?

To answer the original question, no definitely not happy. In slams at least, irrespective of what lies ahead in the next match I always prefer Federer win his current match. Some of the items you mention may mitigate the disappointment - certainly a loss in a tournament where I had high hopes for him would be more disappointing than a loss in a tournament where I would not expect him to win anyway - but it is still a disappointment.

Yes Tenez, agree. The better fitness wins tomorrow match. The first three games will show us which way could match go on. I would say the first set is really decisive one. If Nole wins it, then Nadull will show his nervous theatre.

Appreciate the comment wow. Unfortunately Tenez doesn't like it when folk prove him wrong as is evidenced by numerous occasions on here where he calls someone a wum who doesn't agree with his opinion.

@paulcz
Not having Nole then Roger´s entry would not last much longer.

That how it works paul, isn't it?. Not having Pete would have kept Borg's legacy at the top GS much longer. Not having Roger would have kept Pete 14 almost unbelievable. Not having Nadal, Roger's haul would have been 22 slams by now. Not having Djo, Nadal would be breathing down Fed's 16... its all like that in tennis.

Jonty, I think a lot of people here are not very open to other's views. But i know that you are not a WUM. At least not with me.
All I feel that we can still have interaction and discussion despite of having different views and opinions.

Wow, you're right, seem to be a lot of closed minds in the tennis forum. You're right, I'm a fed fan too, but doesn't mean I can't appreciate other players achievements.

Yest rotla,
there is a problem with organizers who go by slowing surfaces and slowly balls in hands for Nadull, that is irritating. Sponsors
and there is couple other things which Nadull can get through as nobody else, but many can not see them.

That's true. I have known some posters for years and read all their views and it doesn;t take me long to recognise those who have a good eye for the game. In that respect I admit I am not very open to some posters views cause I know they can only be right like a broken clock is right twice a day.
Iam afraid i see Jonty as a wum. I don;t mind the fact he doesn't know much about tennis, but turning a proper conversation about injuries into me (or him actually) accusing a player of lying was really stupid. There is no way around that wow!

Tenez, like I said, Fed asked if he was injured, he said he wasn't, you insist he is, therefore you are insinuating he is lying.
You've already admitted you're not a tennis pro, nor a physiotherapist, I would not be surprised if the closest you've come to playing the game is having a Wii.
