Sky sports are reporting that Arsenal have made an 18m bid for Downing since when was he worth anything more than half of that???
Andy Carroll went for 35m a price that blows me away for a big battering ram who has had half a decent season at the highlest level
Darren Bent cost 24m Jordan Henderson 20m Milner 24m edin dzeko 27m there are probably many more head scratching fee's but I've read that the 35m price tag on Sneijder's head is putting United off of making a move but with the figures being paid for average premier league players that looks a bargain

This transfer market has once again emphasised that English players are overpriced.

Arsenal are selling Fabregas and likely Nasri, so it is wise they spend what they have to. Man Utd just spend 18.9m on a 20 year old keeper who has just had 2 seasons under his belt. This is also a risk.

No-one is overpriced. It's the market that determines the price.
Like everything else bread, milk, houses... transfer fees will continue to rise.
Does nobody understand how football works?

All top teams have done it.
From successful signings like Rooney and Lampard to failures like Bently and Hargreaves.

I think its the 200k per week salaray.
I mean look at the fuss it took Wayne Rooney to kick up in order to land himself that kinda wage packet...

If we get Sneijder for 35 million IMO it will be great when you consider for same price you get CARROLL
I repeat FOR SAME PRICE !!!!!!!!

Yeh but Sneijder is on £170k a week at Inter. He would require in excess of £220k a week in England to have the same net wage (unless he tax-dodges, not unlikely). He would be given a 4 year contract most likely which basically pockets him £45 million over 4 years.
Effectively we're committing around £80 million on a player who will have little resale value and will probably play for no more than 6 years.

No you're wrong. Some managers/chairman are stupid.
Regarding Andy Carol. Liverpool were cash rich and desperate. It was five to twelve and the window was about to shut. Mike Ashley stitched Dalglish up like a kipper. Never worth £35m.

6 years is a long time though, how long did we have the enjoyment of watching Cantona?
If Sneijder is world class then he is worth it. Perhaps buy him a house to offset the wage?
I have reservations because of the Veron signing mainly because everyone could see his class, before and after he was in the Premier league.
However I don't want to not get him just because of his weekly wage

The one figure in the OP's list that is a fair valuation is Darren Bent. If you look at the goals he scored at Sunderland and the impact he subsequently had at Villa you will see that it is good value. I think the only flaw with him is that he seems to get one big injury every season.
