When Luke Kelly sang the song "Master McGrath" he saw fit to change the final stanza to "Up the Republic cried Master McGrath". He was of course bastardising another good northern song written by a man from Ulster, about another man from Ulster(Lord Lurgan)and an amazing racing dog called "Master McGrath". The final stanza of the orginal was "Good luck to ould Ireland cried Master McGrath". A much more pleasing and inclusive sentiment than the political cat call so clumsily inserted by Luke. Also much more historically correct as "The Master" died long before the Republic came into being!
Anyway, GOOD LUCK TO OUR COUSINS THE REPUBLIC AS THEY KICK OFF THEIR EURO FINALS CAMPAIGN TONIGHT!
Good luck to the Republic!

Jeez Shen, i was getting sentimental enough about matches of yore, without you sending me into a nostalgic misty eyed stupor.
Reminds me of bringing the neighbours hunting dogs for their daily gallop in the grounds of St Philomenas girls school. Those grounds arelong sold off/built on , but more importantly, the school is now St Raphaelas, because they discovered, belatedly, that there never was a St. Philomena.
As for Luke Kelly, i have an uncle, a talented musician, who sat in with Luke n the rest on a particularly poignant song. He married a Portadown woman. Her "discussions" with an uncle who was" invited" to leave his employment in Shorts made for lively debate at family xmas get togethers.
Echoing what Gibbo said, allthe best to Mr. Michael O Neill and his squad in the future.

MILLMAN:
Actually, I regard Luke Kelly as one of the best folk singers of all time! His rendering of the Scots song, "Come all ye tramps and hawkers"(see youtube), is one of my all time favourites. Like so many Irish geniuses, musical or otherwise, North or South, he died far too young. But then hes a legend, isnt he? And they never die!
You'll have to calm yourself Miller. We are relying on you boys to keep your heads and do the whole country proud! Its only hours or minutes away now, depending on where you are in this great old crazy World!
If it helps, I was in on an AFP interview with Trapp yesterday about ROI's chances. Now Im not Trapp's biggest fan, but I have to say I was very impressed by the man. He was not the least like I expected him to be..He had good presence and came across as highly intelligent, extremely knowledgable, very calm, hugely determined and totally ruthless. I found myself thinking, "I might just be wrong about this guy". Not the sort of man you would like to bet against. GOOD LUCK TO THE MEN IN GREEN!

"Its only hours or minuutes away now depending where you are in this great old crazy World" >>>>>>>>>>>>> Sorry, yes Ive had a few. What I meant to convey was that people will all be watching it at different times depending on where they are around the World. For instance, friends of mine will be watching it in the early morning in the Far East.
