Curly - I was just checking and found this document by Deloitte on tax in Azerbaijan, interesting reading (well compared to actuarial consultancy!)

So it seems if you spend more than 183 days in the country, you have to pay tax.

I am unsure, at least from reading that document, how one could not be able to avoid tax in your circumstances, unless clandestine methods were used.
