Malafeev

Can we sign the Russian keeper Malafeev? He is keeping CSKA Moscow GK Akinfeev away whom MU wanted him a couple of seasons ago. He must be very good. I've been impressed with him. Not just in this tournament but during the pre-tournament games as well. He is not going to stay long with Zenit St. Petersburg. It had to be a special goal to beat him.

Russia could surprise a lot of people and go far in this tournament.

I won't replace Reina 2009 and before but I'll replace him with this keeper anytime now.

Every player is entitled to one bad season, especially when he's given five good one's. Many players have come back from a bad season and reached the level they were previously at.

Russia won't go win it.

Too inefficient in both boxes. They are a very good side but miss too many opportunities and leave too many spaces.

They will be punished by a top team.

Afinkeev lost his place because he did his knee ligaments and was out for a long time. Malafeev has done well in his place, but might never have got the chance without Afinkeev's injury.

I forgot the last time Reina saved a penalty. He has never been good with high ball and crosses. His mistakes denied us many points over the last two or three seasons. Good keepers won't make as many as that.

Well, all I'm saying is this Russian keeper is better than Reina.

Malafeev is not a better keeper than Reina. not in a million years.

Reina is a great, great keeper but the OP has a point, Reina was extremely poor particularly last season and i also believe he cost us a lot of points

Well that's simply a fact, nobody can deny that but we've all seen how good a keeper Reina is and so far we have no reason to believe he won't get back to that. Perhaps with the new manager speaking Spanish it might be a help for Reina and we might even see a couple of Spanish signings to keep Reina happy, as he certainly didn't seem happy last season.

TOOR...you make a very good point , Reina has not seemed happy for a while and that is why i believe his form has been poor.
Whether its because he has seen, Garcia, Alonso, Rafa, Torres and a few others leave and he felt more at home with other Spanish players around the place wo knows

Reina has come out and said he wasn't happy with his form which is honest.

However, since he joined the club he has consistently been one of our better players. Selling him would be a horrendous knee-jerk decision
