RVP & Giroud

Should be our strike force pairing for next season.

Firstly, RVP has implied that he ll only sign a new contract when we show more ambition (buy some experienced/quality players & get rid of some dead weights). So if we buy Giroud (and hopefully M'Vila) imo that more than enough show of ambition and if the dutchman still refuses to sign then he never really had any plans to stay.

Back to my main point, I think it will be great if wenger plays RVP & Giroud as our strike force with Giroud as our target man and RVP playing in that pocket space btw attack & midfield (something Rooney does so well). We have decent wingers in Walcott, Ox, Gervinho & Podolski. They can provide the width on the wings while Rosicky, Wilshere, Song, Ramsey, Arteta & (hopefully M'Vila) provide the midfield cover in a rotation policy.

Its really quite frustrating to see us play with only one striker in home games against (seemingly) weaker sides; our over reliance on one striker 'killed' the good form Chamahk initially showed. We are a good passing side that creates chances at will, imagine how many goals we could score if we had two strikers on the pitch rather than the usual one.

Recently read somewhere that even if we keep RVP & sign Giroud wenger might still persist in using only one striker(RVP of course) while keeping Giroud on the bench. With all respect, that is close to being the dumbest decision ever made by wenger( and we know hes made many during his time with us), I would expect any team with both RVP & GIroud to find someway to accomodate them. United play Rooney and another striker everytime and we know that it works for them & I know it will work for us too.

That's why podolski would be wasted on the left, he has shown when playing up-front as the main center forward he can perform to a high level, seems too limited out wide.

I think that if Arsenal bought Podolski and renewed contracts for Song, RVP and Walcott they'd have done okay for themselves. No?

^^^^ i hate the formation we play atm, we need to go back to 4-4-2 we won trophies using it.

You really think it's as simple as "Change back to what worked 10 years ago and we'll start winning things"? Times have changed.

We also had some of the best players in Europe back then and other teams were playing that formation too. Besides, our best sides back then weren't even really a 4-4-2 if you consider Henry's movements out to the left and Pires and Freddie coming central.

Rannaramshere,

RVP could probably play that role yes, but Bergkamp could rely on two midfield powerhouses who were defensively very good behind him, yes M'Vila would be a start but I still think we need a more powerful and defensively effective central midfield to contemplate playing RVP, as he's not the most assiduous worker without the ball. The problem with the wingers also remains.

But back then we had proper wingers, which we don't now and which you need in a 4-4-2, we also had Bergkamp, the best player ever to play for Arsenal, who could be a striker and a playmaker all in one, meaning that we only needed a 2-man central midfield made up of 2 powerful, driving box-to-box midfielders. Now we don't have that luxury, we need a 3-man midfield to perform the same task, because Vieira and Bergkamp were (in different ways) practically superhuman.

well we need to buy some wingers then eh cause lets be honest our current formation isnt doing a damn thing not only are we miles behind in points total but also goals scored & conceded. I'd play 2 upfront as opp would have to have 2 defenders on RVP & say Giroud might need 2 as well to cover him. In opp mind who do you cover with 2 defenders RVP or Giroud, instead of playin just 1 upfront where decision is easy.

TBAG,

That's a pretty good suggestion, but we all know Wenger doesn't adapt to the opposition in question, that's my biggest bugbear with him. I remember him saying the only difference between home and away was the standard of the pitch

If only he played FM, I won all my home games in my first season in all comps but only half of my away games

1) We can't just go out and 'buy some wingers' whenever we want. We're not City.

2) It's the players on the pitch and general defensive mentality of the team, not the formation.

3) The opposition don't just have to worry about RVP though, they also have so worry about diagonal runs coming from Theo which can split the defence and create space as the LCB has to cone across to cover whenever Theo gets away from his full-back, that creates space for RVP to work and as we know his movement is very good. Also Gervinho is quite good at beating his man which can create the same problem on the other side.

My word!!! You just ruined my day by reminding me that those donkeys are still in my beloved club's books.

How did it get so bad.

Do I have nothing good left to say?
Do I need whiskey to start fueling my complaints?
People love to drink their troubles away.
Sometimes I feel that I'd be better off that way.

'Cause maybe then I could sleep at night.
I wouldn't lie awake until the morning light.
This is something that I'll never control.
My nerves will be the death of me, I know.
I know, I know.
