Mahut dumps Murray out of Queens

Not great for Murray's build up to Wimbledon, losing his first match at Queens to Mahut.

Playing against Mahut, at his favourite tourney, in his first competitive match on grass was always going to be tough.

Would this of happened had it been at SW19, no, certainly not!

Sorry Logie, could you see this happening to Fed, Nadal or Nole?

Murray needs to sort himself out if he wants to be top 3 player.

Jonty,

Didn't this happen to Nadal last year at this stage of the same tournament, he then rang the tounament director to apologise for his performance and promised to be back this year?

Murray's tennis has definitely looked strangely average recently.
I don't know whether that's the transiotion of some sort (wokr in progress under Lendl), consequence of his back problem or just loss of will to continue to battle against Nadal and Djokovic.

I dont think loss of will, will ever be an issue with Andy. I think the change in his game to a more agressive nature, along with the fact then Djokovic and Rafa are showing no signs of letting up are a little demoralising for him. But, he will get there, im sure of it!?

Logie, Nadal lost to Tsonga in the QF last year, not quite the same as losing to Mahut on your favourite surface.

From an external point of view, can't say that Lendl partnership seems to be working, he's not getting to the point where he gets to challenge the top 3 any more, hope he doesn't stumble early at Wimbledon.

Okay, maybe not the same stage but Nadal had time to work himself into the tourney, where as Andy was playing his first competitve match against avery capable player.

I dont believe that grass is his favourite surface. The fast, hardcouts of the US are where he is at his most comfortable. Ive said all along that that come the USO, we will see the effects of Lendl paying off?

I hope you;re right Logie, I was expecting some changes sooner but maybe he's taking a step back to go 2 steps forward, nothing would please me more than for Murray to win a slam (well, there are a few things actually, but you know what I mean!!!)

No shame in losing to Mahut at queens, it's like the blokes second home!

I agree. Mahut belongs there.
Mahut on that court is one of the nicest tennis images in my heart!
