Ricardo Gardener

Hi fellow whites, just been watching the Ricky G in photo highlights on the BWFC website and find myself posting to express my disappointment surrounding him that after 14 years with the club he has left without a testimonial (to the best of my knowledge?) something which we offer to most professionals with such a service record.
IMO his performances in the main have been above par and his contributions to the club over that time have been equal to many of his team-mates and much better than some, the only problem that he has become more injury prone over the past couple of seasons, nonetheless very deserving of a testimonial.
Perhaps you guys could advise me differently, & post your views in agreement or otherwise.

Certainly deserved a testimonial.

He was the last remnant of the 11 that got us promoted in Cardiff in 2000/01, so rather fitting that he shouldn't suffer with us in the Championship and leave with his head held high.

I am going to be controversial here and say his contract over the last 2 seasons was worth far more than he would raise in a testimonial. True?

Jussi gave his testimonial money to charity. I don't think modern players on PL wages need the money.

Testimonials are not about the money anymore as a lot of top flight players give it away. It's about something that rarely exists in football today and that's loyallty and service. It is a chance for fans of a football club to show their appreciation

From what I gather a testimonial is going to happen. Gardener seemed to confirm it himself - but i've garnered that info from other interweb sources.

I'd hope that now he's left it'll be a chance to get some of the old stars back together for a game rather than using it as a pre-season knock-about.

apparently he was offered his Testimonial on his 10th year and he didn't want to do it that summer (don't know if it was due to injury or availability or what) but the players have to do all the organising themselves and he chose not too.

would still love to see him get one but i know the club did offer at the time.

From what i understand he was offered it but didn't take up the offer.
