Carroll's desire!

Hope he shows more of this next season! Any time he gave the ball away he was instantly chasing down possession, winning it back a few times too. His overall work-rate was so much better than the rest of this season.

What you reckon has been said for him to suddenly start showing signs of promise!?

Great goal today, thought he was England's stand-out player, even with Welbeck's winner, I believe Carroll was streets ahead.

Keep it up big fella!

In response to the original question i think carroll did show that desire in the last couple of months of the season for us.

For me the game at newcastle was the turning point. I duno if the abuse he got that day made him up his game or if it was being subbed up there but what ever it was someone lit a fire up his ar£e and he improved ten fold. I only hope he keeps it going. Maybe the abuse he got that day showed him he aint a newcastle player anymore, hes a red n he needs to start acting like one.

In response to the cr@p side argument going on: come on m8, u know rooney has to start, as a liverpool fan and a scot, even i can admit rooney has to play, hes englands best player and only a mug would leave him out regardless of how well others have played. World class players win u games and rooney is world class.

In my opinion carroll was better than wellbeck but i expect carroll will make way for rooney. It would be silly to ignore the understanding rooney and wellbeck have built up at united.

Why don't we play:

Hart
Johnson Terry Lescott Cole
Walcott Gerrard Young
Rooney
Welbeck Carroll

No, it's not still an assumtion.

"If the pie tastes nice, I'll eat all of it." That isn't an assumtion that the pie will taste nice, its an assumption that it will be eaten if it does

Personally, I don't think Rooney will have exerted much effort in training (now that is an assumtion ). On paper, he is probably our best player at the competition. Rooney will know this, as will our other strikers. For this reason, I think Rooney assumes he will lead the line, as will probably the other strikers - meaning they work that little bit extra, whilst he doesn't feel he needs to. However, if Rooney has worked his nuts off to prove he is a cut above the others, I would find it hard to leave him out. The confidence of Carroll or Wellbeck shouldn't really be an issue. If they are not on the team sheet then they need to understand its because Rooney has been better, this is not a direct correlation with them not being good enough and a point Roy will undoubtedly stress. The best 11 as a team plays.

Another assumtion, the team to play Ukraine will be:

-----------------Parker----Gerrard-----------------
Milner------------------------------------------Young
---------------------Rooney---------------------
-----------------------Welbeck-----------------------

When we go 1 up, we'll probably look more like this

-----------------Parker----Milner-----------------
-----------------------Gerrard-----------------------
Young------------------------------------------Wellbeck
---------------------Rooney---------------------

Invite all the pressure and have a nervous last half hour!

This isn't a games console mate

Walcott, Gerrard, Young, Rooney, Welbeck & Carroll. There is 1 player there that can tackle & he'll be blowing out of his ar$e before 60mins. We'd be carved open. However, I do prefer to see Rooney deeper. I am quite suprised Fergie hasn't played him there already - to take over from Paul Scholes.

He has a bit of fire in his belly recently, sometimes he comes far too deep in attempts to win the ball back.

Admire this but then again i dont mind him doing it up the pitch but when its deep and he gives away cheap FK's like last night i start to worry.

Rooney gives us options, he'll always worry a defence, just by his prescence. + it also means we have proven players who can come off the bench and make a difference, I think Theo made the point last night, it's not how long you play for, it's what you do while you're on the pitch that counts.

There's been a fair bit of it in the media about key players have next to nothing of the ball but making the biggest impact.

As for Carrol not starting, it could just as easily be Welbeck, I think both have proved themselves, we'll see what happens, I get the feeling that whatever the team, the decisions will be for the right reasons.

Will milner and young start too is another question? As neither made an impact on the game last night.

Ressurection

Whilst I like you team, I just can't see Walcott, Ox & Andy working together. Ox & Theo will cut in, not cross it in. In that team I think Wellbeck would definitely work better.
