I loved Roy Keane as a footballer, even though he spent most of his career at United, I still thought of him as a great player. Nevertheless, he has really let himself down again. Let's not pretend he was willing to even give the team a chance, because he wasn't that much was evident from his criticism of McGeady before we even kicked a ball!
Here are a selection of his comments today:
"The likes of Keane, Shay Given, Richard Dunne, John O’Shea and Damien Duff are picked every game as they have a big reputation. A reputation for what? They hadn’t qualified for anything in 10 years."
When I got in the squad as a youngster there were Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal players. Where are they now? I can’t think of one player who has had a good season at club level.
I got in trouble for saying in an interview that some of my team-mates were at the clubs they were at for a reason but it was true... and it’s the same now.
Where is their ambition? Where is their hunger and drive to achieve something?
Just completely disrespectful, to be quite honest.
Keano- More Harm Than Good!

Agree Gawa thats something we have in common with you lads. Look at Scotland as well. Never managed to get past the group stages of a major tournament yet the brilliant Tartan Army still kept singing and suppprting their side.

GAWA just the attitude we both follow teams who only on rare occasions will get to experience this. Roy keane said the fans shelled out a lot of money for a sing song ...well we didn't ...but while we're there...

Oscar Wilde defined a cynic as someone who knows the price of everything but the value of nothing. Sounds like Roy Keane to me.

Tell me any International team where a manager doesn't have his favourites?
Due to there being few Internationals a year, then a lot of International managers don't always select by form. Regardless, even if some of these players were not on the top of their game who would Roy Keane have selected instead? I bet if Trap did not pick these players and we lost even worse than we did against Croatia and Spain, then it'd be "Why didn't he stick by the tried and trusted."

So you think he was right to ignore the likes of Mcclean and McCarthy in friendlys for whelan and hunt? Sigh.

And leave the likes of Hoolahan and Wilson out of the squad? Start Doyle and Cox for the 1st and 2nd game while it was clear that Walters and Long had better seasons with Long keeping Cox out of the West Brom team all season

No I don't think it was right, but it is normal in International Football and especially with Italian managers. You watch how all Italian managers have such a close relationship with their senior players, look how big an influence they had at Chelsea when Ancelotti was boss, look at the average age of the Italian side, I'd be surprised if it wasn't far greater than most other countries.
After tonight's game, Trap needs to bring McClean, McCarthy, Coleman etc more into the team, but the man was completely justified in playing Keano, Duff, Given, O'Shea and Dunne, and that was the point I was making. But to be brutally honest, I think Trap will keep two or three of the players I've mentioned for a while yet.

Of course he was justified in playing Keano and Duff etc however time and time again Whelan was playing awful, and when the chance came in friendlys to blood new talent he stuck with Whelan, who will always start no matter how bad he plays.

I agree with you and that's why I want Trap to go. Whelan was not one of the name's Roy mentioned, so he was not included in my point. But I completely agree, Glen Whelan is nowhere near good enough.

My main problem with Roy's comments is not what he said but the fact that it probably leaves John Delaney and the FAI rubbing their hands safe in the knowledge that all that gets debated is Roy himself as opposed to why we aren't producing United, Arsenal or Liverpool players any more!
