How many other men in his position would be acting like this in a job where he earns €430k a year ? Id understand if he was there as a fan paying to support the team

I'll get slated for this but it's actually fairly endearing to the man, if I had his job/money Id probably do the same...he's a to$$er for a whole other list of reasons

I thought Roy Keane was spot on with a lot of his comments last week but the one thing I disagreed with was questioning the supporter's 'win or lose we're on the booze' mentality. At the end of the day there's little the fan can do to affect what happens on the pitch other than be as supportive as possible and try and enjoy themselves. This balloon however is not an ordinary fan, he's a highly paid executive who should be embarrassed that a country as small as Croatia can put out a team of players all of whom are pretty much comfortable and have quality on the ball while we're relying on players whose main qualities are hard work, determination and (don't laugh) organisational ability!

That, and he, is a sad clip.Unfortunately a sad reflection of Irish society in general. Don't blame a few jarred young fans for having a sing song, and lapping up a bit o rabble rousing from that vastly overpaid gobdaw. But the softly, softly approach taken by the vast majority of Irish media over the years from the church to the F.A.I.. The old "that's grand so" response to an evasive answer, on the understanding that" any chance ya could help the nephew get a start in... fill in the blank" .
Dunphy was right all those years ago about the " decent skins syndrome".Sack everyone, and let them re-apply for their jobs, based on merit. Tell the unions to take a runnin jump, then again the mere thought of physical exertion would put those heroes of the working class into cardiac arrest.

Pointless comparing us to Croatia, they may be a relatively new and small country but they treat football the same way New Zealand treat rugby, it's a national obsession. It is the only sport in their country, over here we're more interested in GAA and rugby for most of the year.

Our players are a product of their environment also, they grow up playing in the technically poor english league, what else do you honestly expect from them??

England play exactly the same way as us because they also know they can't compete in midfield, the only thing that gets them out of jail is the pace they have on the wings and up front.

Good points Colin. England while obviously having more quality players to call upon than us play in similar fashion to Ireland. They give the ball away far too much, rely on last gasp defending and ate most dangerous from set pieces!
