From his recent statements it looks like we may see Vermalen playing at LB

It makes sense because we know how Gibbs is made of tissue.
I'm pretty sure Wenger doesn't intend to rest his LB hopes on an injury prone lad.
Plus its well know that Wenger is in the Market for a new CB addition.
This new CB will add to Kos, Djourou, Squill (he doesn't look like leaving) and Bartley. Plus Vermalen can still play there if Gibbs if fit and we face a lesser attacking team.
I think Verm at LB will make us more defensively sound and getting a taller robust defender to partner our already tall Djourou will make us less susceptible to aerial balls.
Maybe this is the reason the idea of Downing came up. To provide the extra width that Clichy used to give us (although with little success)
We'll all see how they line up in pre-season

That will be the most stupid move Wenger has ever made and will in all honesty make me lose my faith in him for good. Get a replacement left back FFS Wenger and cut the B/S!!
