Still a couple more needed

Having seem Sol Bamba sold this week and Matt Mills more than likely following him out the exit door imminently, I had a look at what players we had left in the squad for the new season.

Alarmingly we are looking very weak in defence and in my opinion need at least 2 more new signings at the back and maybe another striker in the mould of Steve Howard (but better).

Midfield looks pretty good though with plenty of options.
Here's out current squad...

GOALKEEPERS:
Kasper Schmeichel
Adam Smith

DEFENCE (7):
Lee Peltier
Paul Konchesky
Sean St. Ledger
Wes Morgan
Richie De Laet
Tom Kennedy
Liam Moore

MIDFIELD (8):
Danny Drinkwater
Ben Marshall
Neil Danns
Matty James
Richie Wellens
Paul Gallagher
Andy King
Lloyd Dyer

FORWARDS (7):
David Nugent
Jermaine Beckford
Jamie Vardy
Martyn Waghorn
Jeff Schlupp
Harry Panayiotou
Tom Hopper

Maybe 1 more Defender (should no one else depart).

Not 100% sure what role Matty James plays in the middle but if not a winger we sure could do with another one of them too

We look decent up front but yes I think we lack a target man, also I expect we'll see little or nothing of Tom Hopper and Harry Panayiotou during the season

Interesting and thanks for making the effort to write all those out. We also have another CB option in George Taft who looks pretty good so far.

I really dont know what to make of our midfield to be honest. Andy King, Richie Wellens and Paul Gallagher have all had cracking seasons where they could have each been player of the season, but contrary to this, they have all had dismal seasons as well. If they all have a great season, along with our other midfielders, we have one of the best midfield in the league. However, if they have poor seasons, we could also have one of the worst in the league. I'm not saying our midfield revolves around these players: Danns and Drinkwater are also fairly inconsistant. Pearson needs to find what makes these players perform and stick with it. This, is what I feel is our greatest challenge.

With some of our defenders departing, it looks like Pearson is trying to set himself his main back 4, which will overcome our problem of a permanently changing defence of last season.

I have no problems with our forwards, we have plenty of options even if Beckford does leave and am excited to see Vardy in this league.

"Midfield looks pretty good though with plenty of options."

Don't agree with this. Central midfield might be good, but we only have two wingers.

We need a second choice keeper, assuming Smith is 3rd choice.

Defence is ok unless Peltier and Konchesky leave as rumoured then we need two new first choice full backs. Do we need a fourth CB? St Ledger and De Laet can play at full back, but I think we need specialist.

Danny Drinkwater, Neil Danns, Matty James, Richie Wellens and Andy King are all center midfielders, but not sure if any are genuinely creative.

Paul Gallagher not really a winger, not used as a striker.

Ben Marshall and Lloyd Dyer the only genuine wingers, so need cover. Neil Danns is wasted on the wing when played there.

Strikers David Nugent, Jermaine Beckford first choice if both staying. Jamie Vardy and Martyn Waghorn as cover.

Jeff Schlupp, Harry Panayiotou and Tom Hopper should go on loan at least until January.

As Spoonfox says we need another striker who offers something different to what we have, i.e. a big, but mobile, target man.

We definitely need to be looking to bring in an experienced winger IMO.

I'd also like to see us purchase a creative, experienced midfield with Wellens moved on and (although it pains me to say it) possibly Andy King if it meant gathering funds together/getting players off the wage bill.

I'd probably be willing to see how we go with the strikers, but have an eye on a possible loan deal if it looks like we need some more experience/target man. At the minute, I think it's difficult to judge how well Vardy/Beckford will do.

I guess it's finding that balance of a squad with depth, but not one with surplus players getting paid to sit in the stands.
