Cole and Milner

Both are England’s weakest links. Cole is poor defensively. He has been in this form over the last two years but still people think he is the best LB and some say he is the best in the world?! I think Baines can offer more. He can score from free kicks as well.

The only reason why I think Milner is playing is because he can hold the ball better than others.

Also, Young has been disappointing but I think he can do much better.

In fact the whole squad can be proud of finishing top of a tough group and that includes Hodgson.

I think Cole has not shone as much as usual, but he hasn't been poor.

He hasn't done much in the attacking 3rd, which is usually a strength of his, but that is partly because our full backs haven't got forward much full stop.

His defending has still been decent. It's not Joe Hart has been peppered with shots because of Cole errors.

I think Cole is gradually in decline, and he won't be our left back in 2014. He might not even be in Chelsea's team as Bertrand is improving.

The criticism of Cole is harsh IMO. He's been solid on the whole but has made a couple of mistakes. Johnson has defended well this tournament. He's covered for either Terry of Lescott on more than one occasion. Saying 'he's good going forward, but crap defensively' smacks of cliché and lack of knowledge.

The two players that are due criticism are Young and Milner. They've under-performed in the 3 games so far. It's got nothing to do with club loyalty. It's about getting behind the national team.

Cole is poor defensively

The back 4 has been very good overall. Park the bus tactics have exposed them to roughly 250 minutes of nonstop pressure and they've performed admirably considering the strain Roy is putting on them.

Cole had his best match v Ukraine but overall he's fallen short of the player we normally see. But he's been solid enough.

Actually Levi, I think you will find it is a combination of Terry and Cole who were at fault for Sweden's second goal.

If you watch, at the start Terry is marking Mellberg. Then Mellber curves a run out of the area and around the back, where Cole should pick him up. However COle decides to not follow the cross into the box but stands like a statue about 12 yards out.

This means Johnson is left to try and cover his own player and Mellberg.
