Looks like our first summer signing will be thibaut courtois....a 19 year old keeper from Belgian side KRC Genk.
To be honest all i know about him is that he has played about 41 games for Genk's first team but i have never seen him play or ever heard of him before...this news just came out of the blue for me..... does any one on 606 have any idea if he is good enough for chelsea and can you see him challenging cech for the number 1 spot in a couple of years time!!

He won the belgium league with Genk last season, which is good considering It has been dominated by Standard liege and Anderlecht for the past 10 years, excellent young keeper.
He is indeed Cech's long term replacement.

He will get champions league experience with Genk next season which is good, because he needs it.

Didn't we sign another young goalie and then loan him back out a few seasons back?

Delac?

I must say 9mil is a steep price, considering you can get Given for only 5mil.

Cech's best season for a few years last years.
he is still only in his late 20's (I think) its a bit early to talk about his replacement he could easily still be our no.1 for another 7-10 years (look at van der sarr)

Yea Delac, I don't know what happened with him, we bought him when we were banned from transfers for around £1 million, and loaned him back to his team for a season.
He impressed me in the -19 (I think) championships when his team (Croatia) got to the final, losing to Gael Kakuta's France.
This season he went on loan to vitesse arnhem, but didn't play a game. The reason for him going on loan was because we were unable to obtain a work permit for him.

It's a shame that Courtois will be loaned back out to Genk though,I would have preferred him to stay at Chelsea and be number 2 then we can get rid of the liability that is Ross Turnbull
But It is best for him to be playing week in week out with Genk for 2-3 seasons and also get Champions league experience.
I'm not sure about the Delac situation,I still think he has work permit issues.

Delac is also a very good 'keeper who is also already at the club, and they're both the same age with around 40 appearances at club level. Would be interesting seeing which one would succeed Cech if Courtois came.
