I agree Rooney was poor but what exactly did Carroll do other than head the ball to buffon. It's hard for the forwards if the midfield can pass. Rooney for us scores for fun, messi is terrible with Argentina doesn't mean he is rubbish it's just England are not good enough not Rooney but the whole team, all the best players need good players around them only maradona seemed able to do it alone

He may batter the likes of Fulham, West Brom and the thre rest of the 3rd division dross in the prem but when in comes to beaten the best ...... again he falls short.

At least Carroll tried though, I can excuse anyone having a bad game, but Rooney just sauntered around like it all meant nothing to him, that is inexcusable. But, like JackScat said, he knows he will get picked no matter what he does on the pitch, the whole world of the media are going to keep on bigging him up and selling papers, mags, stickers, shirts etc etc on the back of his name, which he gets from a team in Manchester which sets up tap ins and easy pens for him on a weekly basis. The FA are all part of it with their refs told to go easy on him all the time. The proof of this is how hard the FA appealed to get him to have at least one game in the Euros. Were all being taken for a ride so that some big business can make a lot of money. But he could at least TRY to look he gives a toss.

He alway runs and chases down players but then everyone moans saying stay up front welbeck played to do that chasing down Rooney dominates in champions league at times before as well that's hard level can't single out rooney he is the best player in the team but he needs better players around him some can spray balls out to wingers he can't do that as there in defence

No more excuses for Rooney. No injury issues, he's in good form, no stories going on about his personal life, more hair on his head, and still despite all that we get a shat performance from him.

Will there ever be a tournament where a player isn't single out, Gerrard, beckham, seaman, lampard etc all blamed every player does better for their club everyone today was poor everyone don't just blame one player he can't do alone why wasnt Parker place on pirlo it's not like Parker can do much else

Messi has scored 7 goals in his last 3 games for Argentina which gives him a total of 82 goal this season for club and country.

He should never be used in comparison to Rooney coz Rooney isn't even close to his level.

Rooney is a very good player but he's not really close to the top 10-20 players in the world.

Those goals were in friendlies how does he do in world cups, nothing. Rooney is a top class player for us, maybe not for England but he is for us dominates the premier league and very good in Europe, lampard is terrible for England but amazing for Chelsea.
