Really disappointed with Rooney last night. Given England touched the ball as a team about 15 times last night i'm sure the three times Rooney got the ball he should have done more with it! Every single one of those three touches he should have beat his two man markers on the half way line, run 50 yards and chipped the keeper and the fact he didn't PROVES hes rubbish.

A brave decision would have been to take Rooney off and bring on Defoe. He would have been more livelier and his pace would of caused the Italian problems but Hodsgon was never gonna do that..

Wild_Rover what use is pace if you don't even have the ball? Walcott has pace in abundance but never got the ball.
My thread was trying to highlight the fact we need to lose the obsession that individuals will win us the game single handedly and concentrate on the getting the team to operate as a unit and do the simple things first like pass and move.

Rooney didn’t do a lot against Ukraine but scored the winning goal. Maybe that’s what Roy was hoping for but I agree, it doesn’t matter if you have Messi up front, if you can’t string two passes together and give the ball away cheaply, it doesn’t matter

Before the tournament started I said Rooney was going to be like a spare part in Roy's tactics. Midfield are asked to drop so deep there's no support. Even the wingers were playing like wing-backs. I thik Ronaldo is the only player in the word who could have put in a decent performance in Rooney's role last night.
At half time Hodgson should have brought on henderson (can't believe i just said that) for Welbeck to drop deep and cover Pirlo and actually give us a bit of possession for Young, Walcott or Rooney to actually get the ball in their half.
