People need to stop hating on Rooney.
All these people saying that he "can't hack it at this level" or "is overrated" are very silly.
Even as a Chelsea fan I know Wayne Rooney is a top class striker.
He is one of the few (if not only) Englishman to have scored in a Champions League Final, are the Euros much "higher level" than that?
Our problems at the Euros lay with our midfield.
People need to be looking at Steven "Can-do-no-wrong" Gerrard and Poor Scotty Parker for scapegoats. They were shocking all tournament. Gerrard had 2 good crosses and suddenly he is Englands best player of all time according to the BBC. While Parker gets labelled as Englands missing link for falling over and tackling some guy with his head.
While Milner, Ashley Young and Henderson need not even be spoken of... dreadful.
It's sad really.
Although, I still live in hope for 2014, Come on England!!

Oh and Young was kak as well, just incase you think I am being biased to United players.

He plays better for United because he has better players around him
..................................
Correct.
............................
I don't no what the reason is for Rooney being so poor for England.
.................................
You answered that in the first part of the sentence.
..............................
When Rooney was good for England in Euro 2004 he had Joe Cole, Paul Scholes and Gerrard (he was good back then) in the middle.
He got the service.

I only cited the two players because people harp on about Rooney being world class but he never does it for England.
Genuine world class players do so.
------------------------------------
You seem to be overlooking the fact that Messi and Ronaldo have both been criticised for their performances on the national stage. You also seem to be overlooking the fact that Rooney did it on the international stage as a teenager and has done well in most of the qualifying campaigns. His showings at international tournaments have twice been impacted by injury and once because he couldn't keep it in his pants. This time he has suffered due to lack of match practice through to his own stupidity and tactics that simply do not suit his game. We all know that Rooney gets frustrated when he isn't involved in the game, but Roy has played a system that sees the strikers isolated for the majority of the match. He would have been better off picking Carroll to play that system.

Rooney is absolutely class but unfortunately he is the only world-class talent within the team. He cant do everything all by himself..even Messi struggles all by himself for Argentina. Messi couldent perform against Germany in the last world cup.
Maradona had good players around him for Argentina. Zidane had the same for France.
Rooney is all by himself and he has to do everything all by himself.
Rooney is a completely different player at Manchester United and he single-handedly totally destroyed and dismantled Pirlo and Seedorf over two legs in 2010 when Man Utd thrashed Milan.
People are simply vindictive and jealous of Rooney

Haha, great article. Very true.
A lot of people have missed the fact that Rooney isn't fully fit yet after a lack of matches (He was lying by a pool before the Euros - nice one Roy).
It's silly to blame the strikers when the team did nothing but defend (and they didn't even do that as well as people are making out) and created virtually nothing. It has been a similar story at United at times over the last couple of years imo when the team created hardly anything and Berbatov was the scapegoat when the midfield was below par. At international level the same thing happens to Rooney. We expect the most talented player to do it all on his own, ignoring the dross around him.

Redmisty, we know that Rooney is a very good player really but to be fair it wasnt just his fitness that was in question was it.
For a top quality player his first touch was so bad that it was hard to believe at times.
I dont think you can blame Roy though for the fact that Rooney laid by a pool, surely his knows enough to realise that he should have been keeping sharpe and fit.

Not wumming at all mate, redmisty said "He (Rooney) was lying by a pool before the Euro's - nice one Roy".
That indicates to me that he was blaming Roy for Rooneys lack of sharpness.

I was blaming Roy for letting him lie by a pool instead of getting himself ready for hte tournament.
You know...a managerial sort of decision! If Rooney was supposed to be central to England's chances then why not organise a friendly or an internal match to give him some game time, knowing he was unfit and would also miss the first two games of the tournament? Or at least give him a personalised intensive training regime or something. Roo wasn't injured so why was he on holiday when none of the rest of the squad was?
If you were the manager would you just let Rooney make that decision?
In any case, I think it is likely that Roy told him to have a rest. At the very least he would have had to authorise it. Rooney isn't allowed to just decide not to prepare for a tournament is he?
In sum, yes you can blame Roy for Rooney's lack of sharpness. I don't see how there can be any doubt about that.

Sorry, I forgot about this bit. I agree totally - and Roo's touch is poor as often as it is good. IMO Roo is far less consistent than he used to be but he is still a great goalscorer. Strangely, he seems to have scored more goals as his all round play has declined.
The reason we don't see this for England is that he gets no service. If you look at his chances to goals ratio for England, I would bet that it is not bad at all.
